I'm trying to set up a DNS for one of the domains I own. However, I really just want a subdomain. I believe I've set up everything properly with the host of my domain. What do I need to do here at home? Ideally the DNS would remain behind my firewall. I have an IPCOP firewall with two servers running Server 2003 and one running Fedora Core 5. I'd like to set up my subnet and active directory on one of the Server 2003 machines. Ideas, hints, suggestions?

Re: DNS on Server 2003
When I think about it... the DNS server will need an external IP address, won't it? Right now I only have one and my firewall has it.
What if I just wanted to set it up for local use and worry about external use later? I would like to be able to identify the computers on my network like so:
computer1.subdomain.domain.com
computer2.subdomain.domain.com
... and so on.
Is that possible?www.RedLineVSix.com || 1996 Camaro, 15.159@92.5mph

Boy you guys are helpful! :P
How about Active Directory? Now Active Directory doesn't like my DNS... I still only have the one IP address. What does my DNS configuration have to include for AD's initial configuration?www.RedLineVSix.com || 1996 Camaro, 15.159@92.5mph

Re: DNS on Server 2003
i'm dealing with server 2003 currently as well, my only suggestion is google, and yes, your network adapter will need an external address to give your server the ip, all the other computers can be assigned an ip on your network if you set up a dhcp server on the same server, but basically it is just a big pain that you just need to play with until it works, but yeah, stick to google and you will figure it out
