I know this isn't a chrysler forum, but i'm sure some of you guys know about all different engines and brands so here's a questions for you.

My dad has got a 8.0L V10 dodge ram. Same engine as the Viper, but obviously tuned for torque, not horsepower. The thing redlines at 4300rpms. I was wondering what the real difference is in the engines. I mean, when i get this truck my plan is to either lift it and make it fast, or lower it and make it fast. Lowering would probably be easier/cheaper, since it's 2wd, and lifted 2wd would be stupid.. I was wondering how easy it would be to make this truck rip.

a problem with the v10 truck was always that the power was too much stock for the plateform. can't get a real good quater mile when all you do is spin.

Yeah, I've noticed that. I was driving it a little while back and i was going around a corner probably at 20mph, i pushed the gas maybe half way down, and the back tires started slipping.

I can't expect much of a quarter mile out of it anyway though, it's a huge, heavy truck with a super cab and a long bed. I was just wondering if there was an easy way to add some more power.. or at least a cheap way that maybe even my dad would accept (add more towing capacity or acceleration under load)

a simple supercharger setup should give you all the hp you could ever want. with 8.0L, you're talkin an extra 100 hp with only like 5psi... which means other than more frequent oil changes, you really wont need to prep the engine much, if at all.

            god i hate trucks.

but a lifted v10 would be even worse.

dont go fast in a truck, it cant handle. its stupid.

trucks are for hauling stuff, not ***.

I hate to be a spoiler but Dodge V10 engine has a lot of problem. That probably explains why the Viper is such an unreliable car.

A Hemi V8 would be better.

Well, so far we haven't had to worry about any mechanical problems. The truck has less than 50K miles on it.

If i were to lift it, i would want more torque and 4wd for offroading, but if i lower it, i'll probably put a shortbed on it, and go for more horsepower, i was just wondering if there was something in particular on the engine now that is really holding it back. btw it's a 97
