  • Computer Help:

    I'm not having too much luck putting together this PC for my girlfriend's dad. Here's the story.

    I put the computer all together, everything worked fine except the CPU was running hot. So I tried to work that out, and while I was doing that, BAM, the power supply blew up. I RMAd the case, they sent me back a new one, and now when I turn on the computer, all the fans spin but I get no video, and no beeps.

    Please point me in the direction of what to RMA next. I need to get this computer up pretty soon.

    if possible, you may want to try a different video card, or just clean the connectors and make sure it's seated properly..I had almost the exact same problem, the video went after my psu blew. Depending on what case you got (quality of the psu) you might want to try a better one.

    chances are if the powersupply blew out, it took your motherboard with you. And if your motherboard went with it, chances are things like the cpu, ram, video, might all be dead. I would probably start with the mobo.

      Re: Computer Help:

      The jumpers on the motherboard might be set to "clear CMOS". You may need to change the jumpers from "Clear CMOS" to "Normal". Read the motherboard book, it comes in very handy. Other misc. problems:

      Make sure all cards are pushed all the way down
      Make sure memory is all the way down;
      Make sure that you did not bend a pin on the CPU and make sure it is all the way down
      Make sure the CPU fan is attached properly

      If you are using an AGP or PCI-E video card, if the motherboard has an on-board vid. card, use that one first and see if you get video. If you do, go into the BIOS and make the necessary changes so that the AGP/PCI-E is the primary video adapter.

      Worst case scenerio, you might have fried the CPU or other components if you have too much static electricity and caused an ESD on the chips.

      I hope this helps.

        Ya, most likely is the PS went, it may have fried everything else as well. So, I'd see if you could RMA just about everything......that sucks man........

          I was going to try to troubleshoot it, but I went ahead and just sent it all in. Newegg is pretty good about that stuff.

            Yes they are. Just tell them the PS went, and took everything with it. They'll RMA EVERYTHING! Which is awesome. I don't buy anywhere else but newegg (unless it's something small and cheap, or something I need ASAP).
