  • Help on an english paper!?

Alright so im having to find sources for english class on a topic. Of course i wanted to do something on cars and i decided to go with Imports Vs Domestics. My teacher shot that one down saying no scholarly sources could be found and my topic was too general. So then i decided to break it down even further.

my new topic is front wheel drive vs rear wheel drive. Basically i need some websites explainiing why rear wheel drive cars are faster in drag racing. I also would like someone to help me fidn the fastest front wheel drive car in the quarter time and the faster rear wheel drive quarter time. Street cars and drag cars. I also need to find some "scholarly" articlles where someone is actually explaining the physics behind front wheel and rear wheel drive.

Im swamped with history homework right now and i need some help! Anyone help me out? Help will be greatly appreciated. Rough draft is due tommorow.. and final is due monday. Appreciate it!

I would check car and driver, or something related when they compare vehicles in the same class, everything from 1/4 mile times, stats, weight etc etc.

Also, in your post you said FWD vs. AWD, then you said you needed RWD examples.

Motor trend I think did an Article on Front V. Rear V. All, check that out, it was a good article, tons of data.

There was an article in Car & Driver not that long ago (maybe within the last year?) that explained why RWD cars were better for road racing/autocross. They talked about weight transfer and lots of other useful stuff.

It wouldn't suprise me if Road & Track did something similar.

You should post the paper when it's done - I'd like to read it.

Re: Help on an english paper!?

Grassroots Motorsports did a good article on FWD vs. RWD vs. AWD in their November 2002 issue with an Acura RSX Type-S, BMW 330i, and Subaru WRX (pg 26-38).

For road racing RWD has physics going for it: weight transfer to the front non-driven wheels when braking and rear driven wheels when acclerating. In a FWD car braking loads the already busy front drive wheels and acceleration transfers weight off the drive wheels. Thats about the only difference between FWD and RWD. Just because a FWD car technically isn't ideal for roadracing doesn't mean they can't be competitive in it...a properly setup FWD car is just as fast around a track as the RWD cars in its class.

Top level FWD drag cars run 7.5 s @ 195mph...
