I am seriously considering the new Pontiac GTO. The ONLY thing that's holding me back is the lack of t-tops. I know it comes with a sunroof, but it's just not the same.
Everytime I see or hear one go by, I drool! 400hp makes me giddy :excited:
Basically, I'm looking for someone to talk me out of it and tell me to wait for the (cough*cough) new f-body ...whenever THAT is.
Anyone here own one or know someone who owns the GTO? Any feedback from it?
I had the opportunity to drive my uncles '05 Cosmos Purlp GTO, and I can say that if I had the money, I would definitely be all over that car. Lots of people in the beginning didn't like them, and I couldn't understand why, but I think when it did finally make its reappearance, it certainly changed alot of peoples minds. I love Fbody's, don't get me wrong on that, but I have never been one to get in and out of an Fbody. Always been somewhat of a struggle for me. I liked the GTO because it gave you a similar feel of an Fbody, without the struggle of getting in and out of one.
Sorry, I can't talk you out of it.:p
1995 Pontiac Firebird
2008 Chevrolet Silverado LT Crew Cab 4x4
i actually test drove a Holden Monaro.. whoops i meant Pontiac GTO.
it was a chevrolet promotional event where they actually let you drive the cars around a track (translation, speed around cones in a huge stadium parking lot).
i thought the handling was pretty tight. my friend thought it should have been tighter.
i expected more punch from the 6.0 V8.
the z06 vette had LOADS more available power and that is the car that left an impression on me.
if i were to throw down the money, i guess the GTO is more within range than the z06 - by a longshot, but i'd take a used z28 in good condition over the GTO any day.
the GTO feels like my camaro with the nitrous, whereas the z06 felt like it had twice the power moving me along - really pushes you back in the seat. it must be the vehicle weight, gearing and drivetrain.
granted, the Holden Monaro.. i mean pontiac GTO has some things going for it, but for the price, it lacks so much compared to every other car GM puts out with a fat engine.
if the base started at $24K as opposed to $34K, i would be more impressed. consider how much you spend after a reasonable load of options and financing.
i say skip the GTO and save up for the upcoming camaro.
and the manual trans is actually $695.00 MORE than the auto
yes, but the auto cars get hit w/a gas guzzler tax that makes it more expensive than the STICK, so you're actually saving money by getting the stick. weird, huh?
Yep yep. I've got an 05 LS2. Sorry, I can't talk you out of it, lol. Go drive it. Theres a long list of reasons why vehicles in the similar price range don't compare. Take one out and see for yourself. :p

Just to counter that, pick up any magazine of any major publisher. They rip it apart for the bland styling, but one thing that always seems to be undisputable is the bang for the buck.
Not to clog up the thread but I wanted to add something. I will tell you something I don't like about the car.
It doesn't have the seating of a sports car. You sit kind of high which I didn't really like. But then I drove my buddies corvette for the entire day when we both traded. When I got back in the GTO, it was like heaven on my @ss sitting back in those big leather lazy boy's, lol.

So let me get this straight...it's comfortable AND fast? :naughty: Sweet!
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
