Re: n-e 1 here own the new GTO?

Two things I really dont like about it are the shifter and the lack of a dead pedal. Most GTO owners go with a GMM shifter to fix the first problem, but the second problem is just irritating. I guess you get use to it.

The one major upside of the GTO to the new Camaro is dealers are very willing to deal on the goat. I talked them down to $27k right off the bat for a black 06 T56 when I test drove one a little while ago.

GTO's will be a steal after a while, because demand is still low and dealers want to get rid of them....... so if your looking for 400 HP stock, and tons of aftermarket support, go with the GTO.

They added a dead pedal for the 05's and 06's. Now that you mention it, the shifter is kinda so-so. It's good enough but it'd probably be definitley worth the mod no doubt.

They are pretty dirt cheap now because nobody wants them, lol. Don't let that scare you off though. Use it to your advantage. The mass public has no idea wtf these cars are as someone asks me just about everyday, "What is it?".

The local dealers around here have GTO's piling up, you may be able to pick on up for a steal.

You get the 400 hp, but the styling & popularity may seriously kill your resale.

I'd save $10k and get a C6, or wait for the new Camaro.

I've had a chance to take the LS2 GTO for a spin around a road course too and I liked it. The suspension could've been stiffer, but it's a really practical muscle car. Definitely comfortable. The thing is, do you want to pay over $30k for one when you can get a LS1 f-body for much cheaper? It's hard to say, but see what it's worth to you. Take it for a spin and see if it's worth paying a little bit more for. Personally, I wouldn't want to spend more than $30k for a new GTO. I'd like to spend somewhere close to $28k tops. If only the base price of the GTO started around $24k, I'd be all over it too.
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

The Vette is well out of the question. Here in Philly, the insurance premium is astronomincal! A co-worker had a 2002 Z06 for three months. A family guy with his own home, no accidents, no tickets, married for over 5 years and 34 years old, he was paying $6,900.00 a year for the Vette alone! Not counting the other two cars they owned. Just for kicks, I was quoted a similar price when I was messing around with Allstate, Geico and State Farm once before.

The new camaro is a far option too. The first one or two years is going to cost alot because of demand. I think that "demand price hiking" is a B*llsh*t thing that dealers use to fill their pockets with someone else's hard-earned money, it's a fact we have to live with.

As I said, I'm going there on Monday to see if I can work a deal. I'm not going to pay any more than $28k...period! If they turn me down, I'll just go to another dealer. Time is on my side here and I have plenty of it.:)

He won't pay over 30K. You get what you pay for either way. I looked at 2002 low mileage LS1's before I even thought of the GTO, and they really aren't that much cheaper. I couldn't see spending that kind of money on a 5 year old car when I can spend 5 g's more and get brand new and much better quality on top of it all. People think they are selling god's gift with those cars and ask outrageous prices.

The GTO with full coverage costs me 1400 a year... Im still considered a high risk too, since im a 24 y/o male. That's even an upgraded plan and not the basics.

The day I went out and test drove an 05 GTO with the 6 speed, I was not impressed at all. After 3rd the car had nothing. Right after we went back and took out and 05 SSR and that thing moved more than the GTO.

I am glad I have my old 66 GTO. They just dont make them like they used to.

Numbers don't lie bud. Just because it doesn't "feel" fast doesn't mean it's slow. I think your backwards too. The car feels like it pulls the hardest on the top end.

I remember when I first bought my firebird. It felt god awful slow compared to my grand am, but it easily blew the grand am's doors in.

Oh I agree with your comment "just cuz it doesn't feel fast doesn't mean its slow." 1-3rd gear is pretty nice, and you should only need 1-2nd to get through the 1/4, but after 3rd that car is slow.

Top end... I dont know since I just test drove the car and only took it to 90. The only thing I have topped out in was my busa and an incentive flight in a F-15, and after that everything else just seems slow. :)

And as to my comment about not making like they used to. Old GTO's were in the 13's stock with carb's, easier to work on, and looked better!:naughty: Didn't turn as well but still better for its time.

Well no wonder everything feels slow, haha. :p

So let's run'em. 05 vs. 66. We'll see if these new GTO's are worth the name plate. :naughty:

And of course they looked better, I can't argue with you there! But don't forget, even in the 60's-70's, goats barely looked different than a Bonneville.
