  • My first F-body.

Hello guys, Im new here but I'm a long time fan of camaros and firebirds. Heck, its a family tradition.

I am selling my truck to some datsun enthusiasts who are willing to pay me up to $2400 for it, and Im going to get my first F-body. Fuel economy and repair costs are on my mind, power is really not all that big of a concern. Anything will be more powerfull than my truck. I found a third generation Firebird with over 200k miles, the price is right and it is the original owner.

Does this look like a good car? It needs a few things, my father is a mechanic and my grandfather is a transmition guy, so I would have them check it out before I bought it, but I was hoping you guys could provide me with some extra information about this year of firebird and some commen problems with them.

From the picture it looks to be in good shape for having that many miles on it. 200,000 miles is a lot. That would be my main concern. Mechanical devices will always fail no matter how well they are maintained.
My best advice would be to ask the seller for all the details about the car. What all has been replaced and so on. Test drive it of course. Have your dad check it out, since he is a mechanic. You can always shop around. The more you look the more deals you can find.
If you do decide to buy do not forget to negotiate. Cash Talks! Make like a $1000 offer have the cash with you. I think I would have it all in $50 dollar bills. Put them in an envelope and flash that to the seller. When he sees that fat envelope full of green he is more likely to make a deal you feel comfortable with. I bought my Camaro for $2500 the seller was asking $4500. I'm happy with that purchase.

          Good luck
