What has happend to Halloween?

Back when i was younger and still trick or treating there was tons of kids out of halloween. Last night there was like 30 kids out that came to the door...what has happend? its like halloween has died! i dont get it...u get to go out scare people and eat candy for like a week after....what kid doesnt wanna do that? It got so quite i could go out side and look around and i wouldnt c 1 kid walkin across the street to get to another house..NOTHIN it sucked

I think it has a lot to do with paranoid people and not trusting anybody anymore. They keep showing all these things on TV like 'watch out for poison candy, etc'.

Because of this, I believe people are moving towards more organized functions for halloween instead of walking through neighborhoods at night.

It kinda sucks but the halloween people used to know is fading.

I also think that its just people getting more busy. Parents are more busy and dont have time to take smaller kids for example.

Also I think its an issue of people not really knowing their neighbors very well anymore. Like when I was a kid, my family basically knew everybody on the block. Since we moved 6 years ago, we really don't know anyone. Or in my apartment complex, me and my buddy have been here for over 2 months and we still have met NO ONE! Not a single person who lives by us has stopped to say hi or waved, or anything. I think its just the people.

hell i went out last night and im 22...sure i went out scarin kids and my neighbors...i still get a kick out of it cuz halloween is the best holiday....i even got candy...well that probly cuz no kids came around and they were tryin to get rid of it but who cares i got candy haha

Yeah, you got it right, Paranoid parents. I spoke to a couple of my coworkers and they didn't took their kids out for trick or treating.

I think the adults had more fun than the kids.

My brother's company did "safe trick or treating" inside the office building. He said it was packed with kids. I think a lot of people do that now.

I live in a very nice/safe neighborhood and the kid count was about normal. One father was taking his kids around in a gold cart - talk about lazy.

I did take my son out trick or treating. He loved it! :banana:

besides, back in my day, my parents ENCOURAGED me to eat the poisoned stuff. it builds character! nothing like the old razor blade in the gums to teach a kid self suffieiency. now we got a bunch of wussy parents and even more wussy kids. Now we know where emo kids come from...

We were mobbed with so many kids, we ran out of candy after only 1-1/4 hours!! We even bought more than last year just in case. We get more kids every year in our neighborhood.

My Take:

#1 People are more anti-social & lazy than ever. Its much easier to sit in front of the TV and give their kids a bag of store-bought candy.

#2 Parents are cherry-picking the ritzy neighborhoods they're taking their kids to. At least that's what happened at my last neighborhood.

For some reason there was a fireworks show a block from my apartment last night. Anyone know how fireworks are related to halloween? I think I'd be happier thinking they are just wasting my tax money instead of knowing they are launching it into the air whenever they get the chance.

Ha ha, yeah. I heard them go off last night. Couldn't see them from my window. I was just chillin inside and heard what almost sounded like explosions and turned to my wife and asked, "You hear that? What the hell is that?"

She says "It's fireworks"

I'm like, "OH". I sure didn't expect fireworks on halloween hence why I was a little concerned. For all I knew kids could have been blowing up cars in the parking lot.

Fairfax will probably light more off on Thanksgiving day.
