What a bunch of ****ty arguements in this thread. Its gotten no where. Smokers hate the ban, most non-smokers like it. I for one don't smoke and think its absolutely absurd

Good thing we have people like you who are enlightened and above all of us to tell us that our arguments are ****ty. If you don't have anything to say on the topic you really shouldn't be posting.
Agreed. Only POST if you have something constructive to add.
First, the losing weight thing is true, but that's because the carcinogens damage arteries that supply other parts of the body and also raises blood pressure. It also increases the metabolic rate or rate at which your body burns food. Smoking also seriously affects the arteries of the legs, leading to peripheral vascular disease. In severe cases, amputation may be necessary because of the formation of gangrene. (This happened to my mother's friend, who had BOTH of her legs removed.) Also affected by smoking are the arteries of the brain, which may result in stroke. Above all, lung cancer is the most harmful effect of smoking.
Other respiratory diseases associated with smoking are chronic bronchitis and emphysema and combinations of the two. (I know someone who wears an oxygen tank because of this.) Also, included is breathlessness and coughing up sputum or flem. (My best friend coughs up green flem all of the time. She has smoked since we were 12). In addition, your immune system is greatly affected and it is harder to fight illness. (She is sick all of the time. She has everything from lupis(sp?) to gall stones to weak/sore legs from poor circulation. It's something new every single week.) In addition, smoking also increases the risk of mouth cancer, lip cancer, and throat cancer. (My friend's father, who smoked his whole life, had part of his throat removed from cancer.)
There is also evidence that anybody in the vicinity of a smoker is at increased risk of related disorders. "Passive smokers" who inhale second hand smoke also suffer from considerable immediate discomfort in the form of coughing, wheezing, and watering eyes along with other acute illnesses such as bronchitis. More info on second hand smoke can be found here: http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=35422
Isn't that the 3rd time you have posted the comparison between cigarettes and cars. Are you ignoring my posts or do you not understand them? I'll make it as clear as possible.
Cars help society. We need cars to be able to go places and live as we do in America. We are also working to make cars less dangerous and pollute less everyday.
Cigarettes are bad. They harm not only the smoker but the people around the smoker. The cigarettes provide NOTHING useful to society.
The car to cigarette comparison was bad the first time. Its not going to get any better if you keep posting it.
