I totally agree. The 305 V8, is probably the worst motor ever created, because our 3.8l motor is tons faster. What happened to no replacement for displacement? However, some third gens had the 350, now they were closer to a sports car. You know what, lets forget about the late 70s and 80s F-bodys.

From your comment I either know you are young or dont know much about GM engines. The 305 is one of the best engines made by GM. It is almost the same thing as a 350 but revs higher. If I put a 305 and 350 side by side, I bet you couldnt tell me which was which by just looking at them.

I am young, but I'm talking about the 80s 305. Those engines were horrible. Previous 302s from the 60s were amazing. I mean any V8 thats rated at like 140hp is crap. I know about all the restrictions of the time, but look at ford. They were producing 225hp with there 305s in the Mustang. I've "raced" a 86 Camaro with the 305 and let me tell you it is a dog. If my little v6 can blow it away, than there's something wrong. I'm not trying to be a d!ck, but its the truth.

Edit: Most IROCS had the 350, they are good cars. The other cars had the 305. The 350 was from the vette and it provided good performance in the IROC. However, the base V8 was far from spectacular considering that it was supposed to be a muscle car.

They are not stout at all. My friend as a 1985 IROC and talks sh!t about my v6 all the time. I am sick of people making the remark the engines were the best ever. No they were not! I am so pissed at everyone who thinks they are big and bad with the 140hp 305. I am biased because I get a lot of crap from these owners. I blew an 86 camaro right out of the water from a stoplight and let off and about 80mph after I put a good 7 car lenghts on him. He pulls up next to me and starts saying how he would have caught me because he has highways gears. And now he denies my victory and proceeds to still make fun of my car. I'm sorry, but that really gets to me. The kid with the Iroc revved at me and it sound like a choked out piece of crap. I then rev my camaro up to about 2500rpm to match his pathetic rev. He proceeds to say "what a piece of sh!t". And yet I offered to run him and no go. You know why? Because he knows his POS 3rd gen would get blown away by a 6 cylinder. Theres my rant, I'm done :wavey:

No the 80's 305 was not horrible. All the regulations at the time were horrible. Some cars were still performance but most were to get good MPG. Thus have on average 140hp and not needing 300hp. The reason your V6 f-body can beat a 3rd gen 305 is due to technology. Cars just run better now a days. In 20 years, saying performace is still around and not everything come with electric engines, V6's then might make the LS1 camaros and Corvettes seem like dogs. Who knows where things will go.

Also Irocs with standard trans came with a 305 and Irocs with auto trans came with the 350. The 350 in vettes also are always better than any f-body since they have different cams, baffle oil pans, and better exhaust.

I say stout as in strength and longevity, not performance. all my post have been saying they don't perform.
