  • The Human Race

Does anybody ever actually sit back and think of how advanced we are? We've come from the most basic life, a life like animals still live. Now we have roads, sewer systems, government, agriculture, militaries, etc. As a whole we have advanced from nothing, to all of this around us. We changed everything, instead of adapting to the environment, we adapt the environment to us.

/random thought *and no i'm not even stoned thinking about this*

I havn't sat and thought of it as a whole but I have thought about the huge changes in the last 200 years, especially the last 100 years. Think how its gonna be in 50 years. Jetsons life will be normal?

          Re: The Human Race

I've thought about it a lot. The worst part is to think how quickly we've advanced in the last 150 years and how much some of those advancements can so easilly end us all. I don't think that day will ever come but it's just as intresting to think about as how far we have come as a species.
Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

Michael Crighton talked about this idea in the book Jurassic Park. Heres the analogy: If you are a martial arts master, you can take someones life in a single strike, but through years of practice, you gain an appreciation for the skills you have learned and won't randomly go around killing people.
On the other hand, with science, one person does all the work researching and learning and w/e but it only takes a comparitively small time to learn how to use those scientific techniques. So basically we are taking full advantage of nature through our scientific work with no sense of respect for what we learn.
I dont say it as good as he does but i'm sure one day we're gonna kill ourselves off. i'm waiting for the day when we'll plug ourselves into computers a' la The Matrix...

How did the advancement of the human race get to making fun of the president? Whatever guys say whatever you want, but for anyone to be the president, whoever it is has to be incredibly smart. How he displays it is another story. I think we can leave the president out of this thought since it has nothing to do with it..

Agreed. I don't want my thread to get locked because of a political debate

yea, ive thought about it. thought i was the only one too, easy to forget where everything is coming from. I mean most of us take all this for granted, but in reality someone made or worked somewhere that made all your belongings. computer, tv, backpack, cell phone, shoes, clothes, car, food, etc. its just amazing......

it crosses my mind every day when i'm sitting around at work doing nothing. i start looking at stuff and it hits me how everything from the smallest threads in the carpet to the glass in the lightbulbs were the result of someone being much much much more productive than me.
