Re: If you had the money...

OK here's the thing. I'm buying a condo with a ton of equity  so this month will hopefully be the last month I make a car payment on it. I really don't want to get a LS1'd car or GTO, fat SOB's, because I don't want the payment. I'll have the extra money I can put towards building the current 3800 or to build and replace that with an LS1. An LS2 is an option as well as an LQ9, if I was doing some heavy boosting, but there were too many variables to list. I was just trying to get a feel for what you all would do.

I like the V6 idea because it's more unique but there's nothing like the rumble and sound of a cammed up V8.

Like Fireball said, Maybe I will just go buy a prius and drive in the left lane and piss everyone off and curse them when they cut me off.

Thanks for the input, as I said hopefully beginning next year I can make this a reality so I will keep everyone updated and of course post pics for all you people that need a lot of visuals.

Obviously if you buy a vette its going to be worth every penny. My uncle has owned 3 of them and has gotten his money worth. The cars may be getting nicer but the exterior styling is just so bland. Not to mention a fwd V8... anywyas I would build up the LS1. I've built one so I think its fun.

^ I'm leaning towards this as well because it gives me an excuse to drop it out the bottom and replace the K member and front suspension w/ lightweight stuff and of course if I go and put a lot of work into the front I have to do the rear as well. A crate LS1 will make basically the same HP as a built V6 but will require more modifications to the drivtrain so it will accept it. I don't know theres too much too think about right now, I'll have to crunch some numbers and see how the bottomline looks.

Re: If you had the money...

I have already made this choice, and I am building up the 3.4.

Why? For several reasons. 1) The body on my car is mint. Top to bottom, no rust, no nothing. 2) I want the numbers to match. Look how much 70's muscle cars are going for now w/ matching numbers. Think what a mint f-body w/ matching numbers will fetch 30 years from now. (Yes, I understand the 6 won't fetch as much as the 8, but it should still be worth something.) 3) I wanted a project. Going out and buying a done car takes the project out of it. I enjoy researching the parts and chatting with you fools. 4) I'll be pulling 350 HP out of the 6. It's different, so it's fun. It's also my "design" with my ideas and such.

Re: If you had the money...

While I like to see people building up the V6 I think it depends a lot on how drivable you need the car to be. A heavily modified V6 will be making the same power as a stock to lightly modified V8. So if it is just a track car and you want to have fun tinkering with it go V6. If you need it as reliable transportation go V8.

If you decide you want to go V8 I would just buy one. They aren't that expensive and you for go a lot of headaches that way.

Personally, I wanted a GTO or Firehawk, but both are pretty impracticle as daily drivers year round so I'm leaning heavily against getting one. Stupid maturity catching up to me :slap:

I wouldn't say the V8 is reliable. It has a lot of problem. LS1 is marked -12 in Consumer Report. But hey, that comes with the territory of fun.

To me making a V8 fast is no brainer and no challenge. I guess the V6 suits me because I've always been an underdog. A V6 that can runs along a V8 or beat it sure is ego gratifying.

WHen I get a V8 it will be from the 60's or 70's muscle cars. Stupid Calif. rules makes it so hard to do any heavy modifying to your car.

None of the above. Keeping my car forever. I even bought another one (the vert). ;) If I ever get a V8 again, it will probably be the new Camaro (if they make one). I want all or nothing when it comes to power- not a slouch 8 that can't keep up with my 6.
