  • Camaro or Jeep

I'm looking for a newer vehicle. I currently have a 98 Jeep Wrangler and a 91 Nissan NX2000. I'm trying to decide between a newer Wrangler and a 01-02 Camaro. I had a 1990 Camaro from 1990 to 1998 so I know I like them. The advantage of a Jeep is that is has more room for my 3 year old son, it is driveable year round, and is a fun vehicle in a different way. The disadvantage is that they get terrible gas mileage and don't handle sporty at all. What I like about the Camaro is the way they handle, the t-tops and they get decent gas mileage. The downside to the Camaro is the small back seat and the way they handle in the snow. I live near Chicago. We get a few snow storms a year, but the roads get plowed pretty quickly. The Nissan and current Jeep both have high miles so I don't think I'd want to keep either of them. What I need from you guys is to talk me into a Camaro!

Personally, I think Jeeps are just as dangerous as Corvair's....unsafe at any speed. I have seen many accidents in my line of work, and the few Jeeps that were involved didn't pan-out so well. I could go through one horrible story, but I'm not sure if you want to hear it.
I'm also referring to This type of Jeep, not the Grand Cherocrapee.

Let's hear the story. I am talking about a Wrangler. That is the only real Jeep.

I owned a 93 Wrangler. That thing was the most fun you could have with 4 wheels. No doors, no roof, rock crawling, mudding. Damn, I loved that thing! However, it stunk for commuting (I commute 70 miles every day). At 140,000 miles, the 4.0L was still strong, but things were starting to go which is why I sold it.

People are talking about the lack of safety in the Wrangler - 4WD in the Chicago winters is a big plus for safety. The newer ones have air bags and front coil-overs for better handling. However, I am not sure if I would be 100% comfortable putting my son in the back of a Wrangler - no crumple room. The new unlimited - now that's a different story.

If you can handle a rear-wheel car in the winter, then the Camaro might be a safer bet for driving around with your kids. Studded tires and weight in the back will help.

My brother had a jeep wrangler .. He took the doors off and the hard top off and it had the sick radio on the roll bar it was nasty it was so fun to go mudding and drive on the beach ... i think you should get a cheap jeep for the winter and sell it aftre the winter for the cammy

Yeah, I agree. IF you want room for your kids then a Grand Prix would make sense. Four door and not that bad to look at.

Camaro is a sportscar that's fun to drive.

Too much roof! Has to either have t-tops or be a convertible.

Camaros and Jeeps are totally different cars. I know cause I have both. I think you need to eat your Wheaties. It's not like you want to know between a Camaro and Mustang.

I'd say keep the Wrangler you have now and get a Camaro. Drive the Jeep in the winter, and Camaro in the summer. Its not like its a guarantee the Wrangler will quit sometime soon.
