Well....its kinda SNAFU right now. First I had a pilot slot but lost it due to some :bs: about my eyes, I am currenty fighting to get my slot back and so far I'm losing that battle. My father is the one fighting for my pilot slot cuz he knows people who know other people :poke: ;)

Currently I have been selected to be a services officer, but my Col is trying to get that swithced to either space & missiles or intel unless I get my pilot slot back then I'll be a pilot.

So I am fighting to swithced back to a pilot or space & missiles or intel. Its a f'ed up situation right now.

Most of the people I know always join the Navy or Army, but I've had a few friends that joined the AF and one of them got the greatest(well, I say greatest but I mean easiest) job there could be. He fueled up the jets. And since the base he was at didn't really fly much, other than some training every once in awhile, he pretty much got paid to sit around all day and play cards with his co-workers.

Hmmmm thats my job. Fuels. I did that for the first 3 years, and now I am the boss. I dispatch the fuels trucks and keep track of all our fuel on base, issue LOX/LIN, and sit on my butt while I do everything. The job is easy at some bases and busy at others like ours.

Good to know some people would join if it came down to it.

Re: Will the draft come back?

They're a little late with that article. This is the kind of b.s. the liberals usually trot out just PRIOR to a big election to try to influence those too stupid to realize that the days of military drafts are long over. There's no way they will ever bring back the draft.

Besides, I can't think of too many things more WRONG than asking the fine young men and women who've volunteered to serve our great nation to endanger themselves by teaming up with unwilling draftees.

You do have a point, but I'm still in favor of re-instating the "draft". Never should have gotten rid of it in the first place.

Re: Will the draft come back?

The draft idea has two good points.

One is that it will make Presidents less likely to drag the country into a war for bad reasons.

The other is that it is pretty awful for rich guys to send poor guys to fight, while knowing that their own children are perfectly safe.

As for the quality of draftees, they performed pretty well in WWII.

But civilians here can relax. It isn't going to happen:

Good luck with that, sir. There's plenty of people in the military that don't want to be there. You got to work with what they give you.

Glad I already did my time, I'm in the Guard now, but I'll get out next year.

Today's potential draftees have a TOTALLY different mindset then they did back in the 1940's ;)

Tis true, but they chose to be there, they were not legally forced.

Yes, but bitter none the less. I think that there would be better performance from a service member who came in knowing they were getting screwed, instead of getting screwed while they were in and becoming bitter.

It all comes down to leadership, and with the right motivation I think draftees would do fine, for the most part.
