I didn't read the article, the link wasn't working for me. Though, by stating "draft" I'm sure you are referring to the military, correct? Well, if I'm am right in assuming that is what is being talked about then I can tell you that I know for certain it will not pass. This issue comes up about once every few years and always get's thrown out in the trash, because it will never pass and as long as things continue the course that they have been for the past decade, the government will never need it to pass.
The reason I say that is because our military enlistment numbers grow more and more with every year. Thus, making it unethical to start the draft again. They have more than enough soldiers as it is, with many more enlisting every day. If the enlistment numbers ever did start to decline by the thousands and we were still at a time of needing soldiers I believe that it could possibly pass the bill to reinstate the draft, though it is highly doubtfull.
maybe if bush would stop killing our soldiers we wouldnt need a draft. If i were ever to purposely crash my car believe me bush would be standing in front of it:twak:
Hey now, you can't put this all on Bush. Bush has even brought up the idea of trying to pull our troops out on a few occasions, but military leaders and the Secretary of State has argued against it because it would hurt us in the long run to do so now and pretty much just wouldn't be a good thing to do.
Though, I was watching a press confrence the other day, with some high ranking general speaking to congress about the moves we need to make, and he stated that it would be a good idea to remove our troops from oversea's slowly, and the date for this to be executed has been set for March '07. So, we will have to wait and see what happens then.

Please keep telling me your ideas so I can keep . I am serving and yet Bush has not killed me. Also I would take a bullet for anyone one here so we all can drive what we want, say what we want, and all in all do what we want. I am not trying to discuss bush, just the draft. I really want to see how some feel without getting the thread closed. If you are young please tell me, but please keep it under control.
yea, I read the article today, and it there is a chance it may pass, who knows? Do I like it, no. can I be drafted if i have asthma? i know i cant enlist
So what if the draft comes one day, is it that big of a deal to serve your country?
No, but forcing someone against their will is a big deal. When I'm an officer, I want the people who work for me to want to be there. People who are forced have a tendency to not care about the quality of their work, thus making the mission harder to accomplish.
