First they are making the cars look like ricers with the Car of Tomorrow.

And now NASCAR in China? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15909030/

Sorry for the mini-rant... I have issues with the COT.

seriously... that wing hangin off the back end looks rediculous... the rest of teh car i can almost stomach.. but that wing has gotta go...

i dunno bout that china and europe thing... as long as they dont send cup races over there... which will of course be the end result.. guess we'll see... one day we'll be lookin back on the glory days of stock car racing when you could RV at all the races... kinda like today when we look back at the glory days when the drivers were goin sideways at 200+ with no aero and all motor on tires with no where near the grip of today, "interpretting" the rules for anhy advantage...

What i don't get is why would chinese people want to watch a bunch of rednecks drive around in circles? Unless prehaps its a cunning plan by the government to teach squinty eyed people how to drive BEFORE they come here....

                  Re: NASCAR in China?

First and foremost, the article had little to no information. Second, the call it "Nascar" and not "NASCAR" which tells me they no jack crap about the sport. The article was nothing more than speculation that a "new" NASCAR division could pop up in China. If that happens, WTF cares?

I can handle the wing on the COT, it is far more functional than what they have now. Look at any other high speed race car, and they all have similar style wings. Yes, it looks rice, but it works. The front valance looks hideous though.

Lastly, anyone who considers NASCAR still a redneck sport is 10 years behind. Grow up and bring yourself into the 21st century.

                    Re: NASCAR in China?

Bringing it from the redneck sport it was to the global entertainment it is now is what is killing it. NASCAR is flooded on the market right now to a point that no one watches it, because you see it everywhere, and it seems as though the fans control the sport.

In racing, there has to be a set type of rules, unbendable, unbreakable, unrevisable rules. NASCAR has gotten away from that, and is starting to show signs of weakness. The way the points are set up now, more than 50% of NASCAR's marketing went to the wayside, with the two highly advertised drivers not seeing the championship cut. Why do you ask? Because NASCAR wanted to attract and KEEP fans interested thru the football season, which has turned into nothing more than a mistake. NASCAR SUCKS. The racing has turned into the WWE of motorsports, completely eliminating the originality that motorsports thrive on. No team can do anything to get any kind of edge, and thats what motorsports is all about. But what really upsets me is that NASCAR did nothing short of sell out their core fans, people in the southern states. When the Southern 500 on Labor Day was moved out to California Raceway, I knew NASCAR cared about only one thing, the almighty dollar. "Screw the poor, we can go to a richer track and forget the traditions".

For anyone who watches oval circuit racing, watch and IRL race. That is GOOD racing, and is still done without selling out their fans. The Indy 500 will always be the pinnacle of motorsports, and NASCAR can't do anything about it. I say let them go to China or Europe, its not going to help.

Yeah, corporations shouldn't worry about the almighty dollar. I just think they should go to Canada first, before heading overseas like they are talking about.

LOL what fans? Seems the only race I hear about is the Indy 500. And Danica.

I've only seen the COT in pictures and at testing in Daytona this year. I haven't gotten a close look at it, as it was doing probably 180+ when I saw it. Maybe it will look better up close. I hope they take the S out of NASCAR though, or change it to Same.

NASCAR can do whatever it wants - I still won't watch it (except for maybe a Busch series roadcourse event or two - it's fun watching redneck farmers... ;) ). NASCAR is WWF/WWE on wheels...more for advertising and entertainment value than vehicle development. Oval soap operas masquerading as genuine racing is not for me...

P.S. if you want a real "stock car" series to watch, the Aussie V8 Supercars would be the one to watch.

                          V8 supercar 2005-2006 video...

what's killing NASCAR is cookie-cutter tracks with boring racing. I only watch/attend short tracks. Anything over a mile sucks.

if the huge untapped market was tapped in china, and they used ACTUAL STOCK CARS, instead of purpose built, funny-cars; i dare say i thing it would be more interesting, and perhaps steal the lime light away from the WWE we call NASCAR.
