  • 3.8???

I know this is going to sound kind of ridiculous, but I'm rather curious as to what it means.

the 3.8L V6, it has 3.8 liters of what?

3.8 liters of displacement. Just like saying 231 cubic inches of displacement.

Which leads me to this... It really boggles my mind how GM can make a 7.0-liter motor the same size (outter dimensions) as a 5.7-liter motor.

displacement = (max volume of each cylinder) x (number of cylinders) = [(.25 x PI *(bore)^2_) x stroke] x (number of cylinders).

depending on the thickness of the castings, rod length, piston designs, combustion chambers, valve clearances, cam location, piston skirt clearances, block/rod clearances, etc, any manner of displacement can be accomplished...

note: this is an over-symplification on this.. you can find a lot more info by searching, both on this site and many others...

              what's even boggeler (yeah, i typed it) is the physical difference between a Poncho 455, a chebby 454 & a f*rd 460, w/the former being the smallest
