  • what would you do?

okay. so its been a bad day.

a few hours ago im at work...

the manager pulls me into the office. him and the other 2 managers are there and i already know nothing good will come of this. pretty much they give me an ultimatum(sp?) which is... im fired OR i transfer to another store making the same money i am now minus being a supervisor(but after a while id get the title back). now that might not sound that bad, BUT! heres the problem: i hate my job and this other store is a absolute train wreck from hell and they want to throw me in there to pretty much fend for myself and "help" get it on track. now that doesnt sound that bad on paper as it seems like a good opportunity for me to make more money. problem here is that ive worked for this company for 5+ years and havent had a raise in the last 2 years so outlook on raises is grim.(not that im the only one that hasnt had a raise,no one has) i wont go into the details of why this is happening right now, becuase its a long drawn out story that i dont feel like getting into right now. yes ive worked there too long(sportsbar) i know, it seems like the perfect time to get a real job in a way. if it werent so close to christmas it'd be a no brainer and let them fire me.

so my options are transfer and stay there or fired or transfer and deal with it until i get a new job.

it just cracks me up that they know im needed so badly that they wont fire me unless i pretty much tell them im done and would rather be fired. if it were anyone else they'd be fired no questions asked.

just looking for some other points of views on it. waiting for the wife to get home to talk to her about it.

I'd tough it out and show my next employer what kind of fighter I am. This would show them your work ethic in times of crisis. You got the balls to go back to the front lines.

With unemployment, you would get some sort of temporary relief but I would suspect the wifey would want you to stick it out for the money than what your state would allow in a short and given time. Then you have to show gaps of unemployment on your application with proof. Is it worth standing in line with others to get a temporary paycheck? It's up to you with the easy way out but not my choice though unless it's a desperate situation. Then again, use the time off and go back to school to get out of your rut and when your unemployment runs out ( yikes ) you should have already picked out a stable and recession proof job. Personally, I would keep your job option and stay within these turbulent and volatile job market times. I know most women including the wifey would want you to have a steady stream of income no matter how bs your job can be.
      Good luck and Merry Xmas.

You could take the transfer, make the same money, but not be a sup... So, would that be the same money for less work?

          Re: what would you do?

well me and the wife talked. she says its up to me. this job has already put a strain on our marrige due to me being stressed out over things that pertain to work, because sometimes i hold things in until i explode and she automatically thinks its her fault. to me, its not worth putting that kind of stress on the one person i can actually count on in life. so over the next 2 days ive got to figure out what the hell im going to do. id rather not let them screw me over without feeling some backlash to it.

what makes this situation that much worse is that 2 of my very own "best" (very loose term right now) friends are the ones who totally stabbed me in the back in this situation. as far as im concerned, they no longer exist. 10 year and 7 year friendships down the drain over pidly bulls*** so they could get what they want. id would have done anything for them, i even had one of these bastards in my wedding as my best man for christs sake and this is how they do me.

put it this way.. id still be in charge doing all the things i did before just without a title. so no, same money, same work, more bull**** different scenery.

              Re: what would you do?

take the transfer and start looking for another job. If you succeed at turning the other place around, maybe you earn some respect with your current managers?

              Good luck dude.

this is good advice. as long as you aren't a slacking idiot, it should provide you the chance to find something that is much better for you.
if you take the other job and start searching for a new one, it looks like you're leaving a train wreck that you can't fix. i say take the lay off.

                so what DiD you do?

I think you did the right thing, I hope you have success in finding another job. Also, worse case scenario I could always get you a job at the K unit making decent money...good luck man ; )

i think you're doing the right thing as long as you're not taking any time off and start applying for jobs right away. looking for "real jobs" to get you on track to starting a career can be a difficult process (i know, i just went through all of this), so don't expect to find something right away. i think if you would have taken the transfer offer it would have delayed you even longer in finding a new job. even though you hate the job, you're exhausted after a long day of work and it pays your bills.

Yep sounds like you made the best choice. Taking the transfer and losing the Supervisor designation would've made it harder to get a similar position elsewhere if it didn't work out, and then you'd have had to explain the demotion. I hope they gave you a decent severance package, considering over 5 years of service, but something tells me they screwed you there.

Hope you're able to find another Supervisor/Manager-level job soon!
