What is being in the military really like?

I have always considered going in but never did... I think cause the military guys I know have accounted to nothing after coming out. like working at O'Reillys ans such. now I'm reconsidering for this fall after college.

the media has made things look alot worse than what they are IMO.

but you cant argue its good either, more people are dying everyday cause of car bombs and what not. Maybe not all our soliers, but tons of innocent people are dying.

                              Re: greetings from Iraq

Ironranger - Thank you for your service. America needs people like you.

For the civilians. We can defeat militarily whoever we want. It's just that that won't fix Iraq.

Things aren't too bad for us. For the Iraqis they're h***. 100 people a day are being killed. Hundreds of thousands have fled their homes, many have fled Iraq.

The country is divided into three parts. The central government has no power to hold them together. Neither do we, no matter who or how many we kill.

Iraq will be a mess whenever we leave. So we might as well leave now. We should try to divide the country into three pieces with borders so that the Sunni and the Kurd minorities can defend their territory. Maybe we can help with that. Actually the rich Sunni Arab countries like Saudi Arabia should help the Sunnis, the Kurds need our help and have the only thing resembling a real government in Iraq.

Once again, Ironmaker, thanks for you service. Soldiers aren't supposed to question the mission and I'm glad you don't. I'll buy any soldier back from Iraq a beer. I'm hoping to have to stock up.
