  • I come home from a long day at work to here this…

I’m really sick but I still have to go to work so my dad brought some Tylenol pills to me when I was working to see if it would make me feel better, it did somewhat, until I got home!

I just bought a 2002 Z28, and gave my V6 to my parents to daily drive.

It’s was raining earlier on and off and the roads were pretty wet.

When my dad was on his way home from my work in the V6 camaro, he thought he would have some fun and took a turn to fast and did a 180 and slammed into the curb!!!

Both rims are bent, and the whole car leans to the right! He bent something, I hope it’s not the frame!

He’s getting older and can not drive as good as he did before, (he was a drag racer in the 60’s).

I came home and he was crying! He says he is a f*** up, and will never drive again. :(

So I thought I would post this to see if you guys think he bent the frame, and if the insurance company will fix this.

I really need to make him feel better because he has a heart condition, and I don’t want him to have a heart attack!

Dont worry the frame isnt bent cuz we dont have one to bend. Its a uni body car ;)

This sounds like it should be reversed. Usually its the son who f's up and the dad gets upset.

That sux man, I hope it isnt too bad and everything gets fixed and worked out.

insurance SHOULD fix it, and people do dumb things and make mistakes... whats done is done, and as long as HE'S ok then thats all that matters. Cars can be fixed. We're talking 4th gen f-bodies here, not 1950's ferraris.

I highly doubt he bent the frame. probably smashed some suspension parts but thats probably it. Only way to know is to look under it....

Tell you're dad that, again, people make mistakes. Its part of human nature to do something stupid once in a while. hell, i've had my fair share and i'm lucky that my car is still in one piece! the thing is you thank God that nothing broke that isn't fixable, and you live and learn. He's probably freakin out just cuz he's gettin old and doesnt wanna admit that he is (midlife crisis). nothing a lil father/son bonding wouldnt' cure. especially cuz it's YOUR car too. if you keep things real and dont get upset over spilled milk, then he should lighten up and not be so hard on himself.

EDIT: Shodown, we DO have a "subframe" and unibodies can get bent same as frames can :p

Subframes = not the same as frames. Bending the unibody is MUCH different than bending a frame of an non-unibody car (i.e. a full frame car). Much different process to fix/replace. In conclusion, he didnt bend 'the frame' :p :p

mere symantics! poo on you :p :p :p

and we're not QUITE unibodies... unibodies dont have any frame or subframe period. we're like a hybrid b/w the two.

i feel bad for him. the only time ive seen my dad cry was when he SHATTERED his femur and the bone was sticking out in like 5 different places even then he tried to walk on it and drive himself to the hospitol. (thats when he felt it i think.) My dad tripped on a rug for that to happen. (he felt pretty stupid)

Sounds like hes being way to hard on himself. He probably just bent suspension parts. Anyways make him feel better. People wreck cars all the time, especially in the rain. Not a big deal.

so did you ground him for it yet? :p

its not that big of a deal, he's fine and the car can be fixed. no reason to get worked up over a car that can be replaced. :)

So it was wet outside when he decided to take a turn way to fast with curbs and other blunt objects around? Wow, I love getting my car crazy loose in the rain but only if there is nothing around. Congrats to him. Oh god I just realized your from florida too well now I understand. lol. Hope it's not busted up too bad and never throw him the keys to the Z.

yeah, it was a stupid mistake. We ALL make them. He walked away - cars can be fixed.

Pick on him about it and make a joke of it. Nothing to get upset about.

I would definitely ground him. :-)

Sounds eerily familiar to my friend's wreck. Check out the panhard bar and mount underneath the car; see if they're bent up or anything.

hey sorry to hear about it... t least no one got hurt. I'd just change out the wheels first and see what its like.

I have hit more curbs and hopped on curbs then I like to admit and never had any problems just chewed up the wheels.

Good news is I was looking at another set of wheels, if you want a set fo painted camaro 5-stars :)

Also I might be able to get a some stock suspension parts local for pretty cheap if you need them. Check out the LCAs, panhard bar. Does it feel like the front suspension? that might be a little harder.

if the sub frame is damaged you should be able to tell if:

                              the ttops dont line up
                              the hatch doesnt line up
doors dont line up or close well
the quarter panels have significant dimples/dents/disfigurements

its most likely just suspension parts that got damaged.

tell him its not a big deal. v6 fbodies are a dime a dozen, cheap and easily replaced. (the sad but true fact we all must realize :) )

when i ran up a curb (there was snow!) going roughly 25mph, i ended up only breaking/bending my two passenger wheels, the front shock, spindle, and lower a-arm. the frame was fine, and thank god my bumpers/fender/etc went right over the curb.
