get a cheaper bel or whistler and you should be good. The cheaper bels and whistlers will get you better performance than a cobra.. especially with instant on radar and pop, as well as laser. All serious threats nowadays.

WHISTLER 1788 is the one i just bought it rocks... it already paid for itself at least once :)

thats one good cheap option, as well as the bel pro-58... both of these are far superior to cobra...

trust me, i've had cobra's before i knew any better, and always thought they worked "good enough". But now that i've used other detectors, i realized how crappy the cobras are... On the turnpike, i've gotten hit with instant on numerous times, and none of my cobras ever picked it up in advance. A good detector will pick up the IO threat from the cop shooting at cars ahead of you, giving you time to slow down... all the cobras did was alert me right when the cop was shooting at my patch of traffic, i was right on top of the cop... what good does that do??

seriously, if any of you guys are in the market for a detector.. check out www.radardetector.net and read around there a bit... when your ready to buy, pm radarroy and he will take good care of you in getting you a good deal if he can. Customer service is his top priority.

Also, please do not buy from ebay.... what may be advertised as new may be used, the programming may be out of date (v1 for example has many revisions to its software that periodically come out even tho all the detectors look the same). Plus if its used, it could have gone out of tune... any number of possibilities. Just DO NOT buy a detector on ebay.

well, mine works just fine. dont speed and you dont have to worry about it... i have mine just as a secondary precaution, i do a pretty good job of knowing my area good enough to know where cops are. actually a few years ago it my old one got me out of a ticket, the cop pulled me over and claimed he clocked me with a radar gun doing 11 over. the radar detector never picked it up. i asked the cop after he pulled me over to show me the reading. he got pissed at me and refused to saying it was none of my business. by that point i knew he was full of ****. so i took it to court, told the judge and he threw it out because the cop was acting shady.

all im saying is ive never had a speeding ticket in the 6 years ive used whistler or cobra. if youre that concerned with radar maybe you should slow down.

One last thing about cobras... they leak... This is bad for 2 reasons.

1. It pisses everyone off with a good detector because our good detectors pick up yours leaking... Since it leaks on the same frequency as cops use for radar, the detector does not know that its a false.

2. If you live in an area where radar detectors are illegal, it is very easy for a cop to know you have one using his radar detector detector. Cobras are probably the easiest detectors for cops to find due to their leaking. If you live in an area where it is illegal to have a detector, i highly suggest investing in the Bel STI Driver... It is completely immune to all radar detector detectors that cops use today.
