You are correct. A police officer has to make his car visible to motorists in order to conduct a speed trap. And I believe you have a point there about not letting them know that there is a camera taking a picture of them.
i know that once upon a time, these light cameras were being touted as a way to reduce the number of poeple running red lights. This would then in turn, reduce traffic accidents at intersections.
now, after a few independant labs have looked into it, its almost universally regarded that the traffic cams actually increase intersection accidents... oh, and a lot of municipalities are being real a$$holes about it by reducing the time a light is yellow, at just the intersections with the cameras.
i feel they are just one more way for cities to make extra cash...

Dude those are strobe lights to help you understand that there is a red light. It isn't a camera taking pictures every 5 seconds.

They can fight it in court and 9 times out of 10 get away with it. There is a law at least in the south around where I live that the cop car has to be visible to the bypassers.
Also, our lights have the strobes but they are around the outside of the light, not inside of it. And it blinks straight white. The flash of the camera is not insync with the strobe. The cops have told me they are the camera's and I believe them because they aren't anywhere else around the street. We aren't cool like other people, we don't have light pole's for our street lights to mount a camera on, we just have the power lines and connect the street lights to those, because we are redneck hillbillies :)

I heard that they try and do a few pics, one of the intersection, pic of you, and pic of plate.
I lost it but I had a sweet pic of me driving through a toll, holding my epass up through my open t-top. And they claim I skipped the toll. I won that with ease. You actually physically see my hand and epass in their picture.

Yeah, your "hillbiddy" lights. The ones you mention in your previous post was about the ones in Tampa... which are a thin horizontal strob through the center of the light. Not a camera.
In FL they tried to say that it was unconstitutional for one cop to be checking speed and for another to be down the road writing the ticket. That didn't work either.
I like Boot's theroy... don't run red lights.
