no annoyance from this corner, but perhaps a little surprise that the occasion of the execution of this most heinous of criminals should prompt you to speak out against execution in general. But if you're against executions on the whole, I suppose it must include these kinds of situations, so kudos to you for standing up for your beliefs.
It wasn't Saddam, it was "we could learn a thing or two from Iraq" (!!!) that set me off. Actually a number of civilized countries with no routine death penalty have an exception for war criminals or mass murderers. Not my first choice, but maybe a reasonable compromise.

Damn bob, you need to chill out. I "said" we could learn a thing or two from how the court systems work in other countries. Oh, and I didn't mention anything about killing children....
The death penalty should be enforced here in the US of A for those who are taking extreme advantage of the system...period!
this is probably one of the largest events in recent history....the hanging came up out of the blue...as far as when it was going to be done...so how do you think some guy managed to get a cell phone video of it all?...i mean security had to be tight...and there he is with his cell phone filiming...and no one saw?....hmmm
That is a different angle than the one they are showing on CNN, plus the guy couldn't keep the camera on him at all.........
What are you saying its fake? I'm pretty much sure its the real deal. Not a lot of people would go through the trouble to fake that Did you not see the camera flashes on his dead face?

The video is on Youtube now...it was taken by one of the guards on his video phone, so it's pretty poor quality, but you do get to see the drop!! (I know it's kinda sick, but I'm in med school so it takes a good bit to sicken me, and compared to what this guy has done to people it's too easy an out for him if you ask me).

ok, you guys make decent points with the anti-death penalty thing, but you also gotta realize that the US reports ALL of its executions unlike many countries where executions are on the spot and MAYBE with a trial, and it's not like we go about this hap-hazardly. we prove very much without a doubt (usually death sentences are appealed repeatedly) that they committed the crime. no, its not 100% accurate yet but with technology, it will soon be very close. You have the entire continent of Africa that regularly embraces genocide, China executes "enemies of the state" on the spot (Tienenmen square anyone?) I believe that we're very fair with our doling out of the death penalty. if i'm not mistaken, you have to be guilty of murder to be eligible for execution. so basically, that person has willingly taken the life of another person. tit for tat, eye for eye. they've had their chance at freedom, and they've forfeited that right. how is a life of sitting around, not having to work, reading books and watching satellite tv any justice? i might reconsider my stance on the death penalty if prisoners were made to build my roadways or run cables or hell even throw 'em in a chain gang and make them break apart rocks or dig ditches at the side of the road. i dont care, just make them useful or get rid of them. i dont pay taxes so they can sit on their butts all day and crowd the prison. that should be the solution to prison overcrowding. they could get 3, 8-hour shifts, so while one guy sleeps in the cell, the other 2 do hard labor. and they can just rotate, each guy gets his 8 hour sleep and shower time and then its off back to work... every day. paying off their debt to society.

Was it just me, or did it sound like someone was bowling in the video? Btw, very valid point Dom. I agree that they should do SOMETHING instead of nothing. Kinda sounds like they are being rewarded with all that prisioners have. Not only that, but hard labor would make people think twice before going to jail... Right?
Ya for the death penalty!!!! It cost less to kill a prisoner than keep him in there for life, thus lowering taxes... so more money to spend on my cars.
