  • Best way to Drift

So it was late and foggy and slick out the other night and i felt daring. On the way home from work there is a spot where these 2 roads meet and the roads are extra wide. i break the tires loose and crank the wheel to whip out the back end, and TRY to drift. I was really focus and planned out my hand movements and the gas. I tried to balance/direct and steer the wheel and gas it in the direction i wanted to go, together, but i ended up doing a 270. it was really funny. Its harder than it looks. i really tried to get a good drift going but i need some more practice.

Any tips some one can give me?

WEll, althoguht I wouldnt reccomgned it, Make sure you dont overstere, and when you feel it coming back, start to counter steer.

And for god sakes, make usre no one else is on the road that you can harm.

When i went to visit family for christmas I was driving in their little town of like 500 people and the roads were dead, but they were dry, no rain or snow.....

my gf's brother was in the car with me and he said i could drift around a corner..... I slowed down, shifted into first, half stepped the gas, turn it sidways slid for a couple of seconds then i turned back into it and pulled it straight..... it was fun..... i had him screaming like a girl...... he's used to driving front wheel drive.....lol

I wouldn't recommend downshifting into first, unless you want a new clutch sometime in the near future. That is of course, unless you were doing like 25-0 mph.

Get going about 35-40 mph and downshift into second, don't try to use the motor to bring the wheels out, simply pull the e-brake until you just feel a slight lock and turn the wheel slightly and the wheels will start to come from underneath.........then slowly engage the gas pedal as you simoultaneously let off the e-brake then gas it harder for more sideways action, use the throttle to steer the car sideways, not the wheel. Because, with heavy cars such as the f-bodies, using the wheel is going to cause oversteer and the rear end sliding around. As you feel the car peak sideways, turn the wheel back the other way and shift into 3rd and gas it back to straightness.

It's all fun in game doing it from turning on one block to the next, but when you get a nice 90* turn it's heaven.

best advice i can give you... wait for snow... find a huge, empty parking lot with about 3-4 inches on it... go to town... its a freakin blast, nothing around to bank your car off of if it gets away from you, and, you're not really hurting the car cuase you can keep the revs resonable and there isnt much stress on the drivetrain...

course if you live somwhere without snow, this could all be a moot point...

Drifting = 500HP and rear wheel drive. Drifting is useless on the street. Unless you are sponsored on a drifting team then i wouldnt wast my time with drifting with the exception of the occational empty parking lot drifts.

                that's a lie.

if I remember correctly, last year's champion was an 05 Mustang, and this year's was a newer GTO.

                how's that ricer?

                Drifting also = Powerslide.

                Everyone powerslide.

It pisses me off when people say drifting is for ricers, because Americans have been doing it since the Moonshine running days.

i wouldn't do it, but its not rice. Its skillful and fun driving. If thats the case then burnouts and racing would be drifting.
