Looks good, but why are you taking it apart? Did something happen?

        cam swap.

tomoro we should have the heads off, and hopefully most if not all of the front cover.

bigger cams = better springs. cant change valve springs with the heads in the engine bay too easyly can you? ;) i think he's looking into getting the upper/lower intake and heads ported too. but they need to come out so we can put the new springs on them.

I see, I didn't know you had to take out the heads to change the springs.

i dont think you have a choice in these cars, theres not anough room to work the valve spring compressor. maybe in a 3rd gen you could keep the heads on, but even then its easyer to just take them off. its much easyer to do them on a bench then bending over in the engine bay trying not to pinch your finers.

edit: ill see about grabing some pictures of us doing it, it'll help understand how much room you need.

heads defiently have to come out to change valve springs... even if you could reach them while in the car...they need to be done out of the car so that the valve doesnt fall in the cylinder if you have to tap a valve out.

yeah but isn't there a way to keep it in and keep the valve from falling?

most often it wont, but its easy to accidentally tap it...the point is...it would be very challenging to get a valve spring compressor in there. and you would have to use the kinda that grabs the spring itself, not the one that applies pressure to the bottom of the valve and the valve seat.

I put my springs on with the heads still attached. It wasn't too bad
