especially here in Detroit theres alot of anti japanese sentiment but realistically, they make pretty darn good cars. I'm not a fan of the styling (exterior OR interior) but the whole company is run by the engineers. you can tell if you rip apart a few of them and realize how many carryover parts there are in all the vehicles. using one window switch for all the vehicles rather than different ones for each has got to save them on the order of a couple million. there are a ton of parts like that too.

as far as toyota the company and the cars I have alot of respect for them, they make good cars for the money and they actually realize that when you ask the folks on the front lines building the cars you are selling you can get good ideas to make improvements.
As far as the whole alochol detecting car thing, it's a publicity thing. There is so much focus on people driving under the influence of alcohol and yes there is a problem, too many people are killed by drunk drivers every day but what about drivers with other impairments due to the use of other substances some legal some not, people driving who are really too tired to be behind the wheel, people who no longer have the reflexes, vision or mental capacity to drive safely or just don't care and drive their own way. What about people who don't do the most basic saftey services to their car to keep them safe on the road, such as tires, brakes, and making sure their lights work properly.
Ok got off on a rant there, gonna get back to work now.
