Re: WHY do F-Bodies have AUTOS!?!

I don't have an issue with people having autos. Driving a stick in traffic can be a pain. Especially with our heavy clutches. However, I think everyone should know how to drive a stick incase they need to in an emergency.

      Ex:
You are at a party and there is a car behind you that has parked you in. The car is a stick shift. You need to get out of there quickly because fbody3400 is coming at you with a shifter. What do you do?!

Right, like drive my drunk *** home. Seriously, I don't know how many time's I've left my cars are parties because none of the sober people could drive a stick. I once had to shift from the passenger seat and tell the driver when to clutch. It went pretty well (at least to me it seemed to go OK, but I was little toasty).

Re: WHY do F-Bodies have AUTOS!?!

            i love my auto...
yes, a manual is much more fun. it actually makes you drive, and think about what youre doing. with an auto, its just a matter of pushing your foot down, and that can definitely get boring. with how much i drive my car, i like the auto. i used to always eat breakfast on the way to school, and i couldnt do that if it was a manual. so for me, an auto is just more practical.

that said, as soon as i get a second car, im definitely going to look into swapping to a t56, or just t5, we'll see. just because i DO enjoy driving stick.

and about how everyone should know how to drive stick... its true, they should. i remember when we used to come back to the states over italy, my parents would hate driving so much, because they would always get pissed when other drivers braked just to slow down, because my parents were used to just having to downshift. the brakelights always threw them off.

i think when youre discussing the performance difference of the two, it all just comes down to personal opinion. yes, there is less drivetrain loss with a manual. but normally that is evened out because of how many people cant shift PERFECTLY. then, you find the people who are amazing drivers, and they can make manuals work wonders. but for the average person, there is no real performance advantage to driving a stick.

i lost my train of thought. im done for now.

Didnt think this was a hot subject, I agree with the post above 100%. Im not trying to say that autos suck, its just that if im gonna spend some money on a car, I want it to be exactly what I want. Seems like every car i find is fully loaded with a auto, or t-tops with an auto. I guess it makes sense, if its gonna be loaded might as well have the auto, its just most "performance" cars have a stick.

I just prefer them and its frustrating that 95% of them are autos. Except the ones that I find with 250K miles. Or totaled.
You should come to San Jose then. When i was looking for a car (not just camaros... infact i wasn't even looking for camaros) at least 50% of the cars i looked at were stick.

Driving a stick is boring. when i jump in a vette, its fun for the first 120mph but after that, i get bored with thinking about it. I would rather focus on the road the feel of the car

I prefer driving a manual. It keeps me from using a free hand to text message or receive calls on my cellphone and slam the car in front of me.

I know, I'm so old school I haven't got a Bluetooth earbud yet. They are looking dorky in my opinion, everyone else has them.

this post was stupid when it started and now its out of hand IMO, seriously lets just agree to disagree, some of us like loser things like the Florida Gators, and some of us like better teams like the Buckeyes...the only way to find out is to duke it out...I declare an online 5th grade sissy fight.

I had a rental Pacifica like a year and a half ago and it seemed really sluggish when shifting manually too. Felt just like moving the stick in a car without it. Downshifting was kinda fun coming to a stop, but that would get old after five minutes or so.

The T5 in my Camaro started making noises at around 26K miles and was replaced under warranty at 38K miles (bad input shaft, metal embedded in every gear, pitted bearings) and I'd probably hate it if I had to pay for the repair, but I still think it's more fun than an auto. If I had a truck or something I'd definitely go auto though.
