    Re: weight reduction

I am 5'11" at 175lbs...I was at 150 forever, recently I have began to weight train and eat healthy, no more fast foods or sweets. Eat small healthy snacks and eat slower, the slower I eat the less I eat and I get full quicker. I'm not trying to lose weight though, because I am gaining it back while weight training. However, before I started to weight train I cut out the sweets and fast food for 2 months and lost 10lbs.

I'm 5'7" and was 205, now about 185 on my way to 175. I just slowed down on the eating. I travel a lot so it is not easy to find the better places. I take customers out and they always want the fattest food they can get. All in all I'm 45 and can do it...I'm sure you can ...The hard part is realy wanting to.

my aunt who owns a weight loss thing always says you can't go on a diet, it has to be a lifestyle change...

up until this year I've always played hockey, which kept me in shape, but college life isn't treating my healthy side well...freshman 15 is more like freshman 25 oh well

So, I'm kind of the opposite. 5' 8" at 130 pounds. I'm trying to gain some weight, but mostly muscle to make me bigger. Although I'm trying to gain weight and you're trying to loose it you can still use the same thing that I have been using. I found someone to workout with almost everyday. Its a really good way to stay active. So try to find a friend who you could go to the gym with or go running everyday. Good luck

                  Re: weight reduction

intense cardio burns muscle. UNless your eating perfect and recovering fully you will only loose muscle. Comming from a d1 athlete if you want to loose weight, do SHORT 10-15 min high intensity sprints and lift weights. No more fat foods. Loosing weight is a slow process. The more muscle you gain the quicker you can loose body fat. You may gain a little weight before you start to loose. Keep eating, just eat healthy and stay hydrated. Dont try to not eat, that doesnt work. stay balanced and eat three square meals a day. Breakfast is your best friend in loosing weight.

                    Re: weight reduction

Ok, to the two people who said they were underweight...........you aren't going to get bigger by working out. You are burning what little body fat you had away when doing so.

After my accident, I had to sit in the hospital for 2 months while recovering. During those two months I lost 46 lbs. Which put me right over 100 lbs. Not good considering I'm 5'11". To regain the weight it was rather hard, because I have a super fast metabolism.....but, by stacking supplements and drinking them multiple times a day, while still eating 3 healthy meals, it came back on in no time.

Get a weight gainer, monohydrate, carbohydrate, creatine, and a protein packer(usually the weight gainer will be sufficient enough). And the reason for the monohydrate and the creatine is because I was working out while doing this. The monohydrate will help your muscles regrow their strength back quicker.

                      Re: weight reduction

Dieting doesn't really work for most people. It has a drop out rate of 95%.

The reason for high drop out is because it requires a lifestyle change in which most people are not willing to do.

The best thing to do, cut the portions of food you eat but be sure to eat 4-5 times a day. Go out and walk for 45 min. or jog for 30min.

Lose about 2-3lbs a week so it will be permanent.

                        Re: weight reduction

simple: burn more calories than you take in.

I've lost weight before by running 2 miles every day. My wife lost weight by chosing better foods.

As already stated - cut out soda. I see people drink gallons of this slop every day for no good reason (*). Water tastes so much better, and it's better for you.

*I drink soda/coffee for the caffeine only.

As THOR said, lose a little a week, or it will likely come right back.

                            Re: weight reduction

i think you will have better luck with 10 min of straight up sprints then an hour of jogging. The higher intensity stuff will keep burning fat a LOT longer.

The biggest mistake people make, including myself, is not let your muscle / body recover enough. It is extremely easy to burn more muscle then fat with running. So you would be loosing weight but only muscle, so you would be weaker and probably just end up gaining the weight back in fat.

I agree with Thor though, changing your diet is a complete lifestyle change. Just eat healthier more times a day and excercise. It will take awhile. Do not expect to see a change, your water weight and how hydrated you are can throw scales sometimes 5 pounds either way.

Oh, and the first week or two is going to hurt, I promise if you keep at it your body will adapt and it wont be as bad.

                              Re: weight reduction

Everyone is mentioning excersing.......lots of people don't have time to workout and go jogging......that's usually why they are overweight.

First thing that people that don't have much time and are left eating fast food, because of time constraints see only one way to diet......and that is crash dieting. If you are thinking about doing this, please don't. If you go from eating all the time to not eating, or only eating once a day you are killing yourself basically. Sure, you will start dropping pounds by the instant.....but as soon as you eat a real meal again it's all going to come gaining back.

The best advice I can give to someone with time constraints is portion your meals.....eat 3 meals a day but only make a plate of half of what you would normally eat. And yes, take out the soda/caffeine and drink water or even better a slim fast drink(or something just like it), they actually work great.
