  • Do you guys believe in Global Warming?

I have to admit the past couple of years that weather has been wacky all over the country, I guess all over the world.

Here where I live, it was 48-52* last couple of weeks. Then we had 90-100 mph wind in a very dry weather, which caused another famous Calif. fire. Now it's like 82-90* with talks about potential rain in the weekend.

Could this be Global Warming caused by man-made pollution? Or this how our planet recycle itself, which records shows that a hundred years ago we had the same exact climate?

didn't some big a** glacier just break off at the N. Pole, and I also heard polar bears are about to be a threatened species...so yea i guess it all makes sense

there is no global warming. We studied it in one of my classes and found that the world is right on schedule with its temp. cycle. It is just right now we are hitting the hot part of the temp cycle but it will change back again as nature takes its course. Nothing abnormal about the patterns at all when you look at the full history of the earth and not just the past 10 years.

People need to stop getting their panties in a bunch over this.

Also I live in MI and my sled is still really clean since it hasn't hit a trail yet this year. BOO!

I agree but will rephrase a bit. There IS global warming, but it's the natural cycle of the Earth.

It's the cycle of the earth. I think there is some contribution albeit minor but still enough that it can/is impacting the planet. As for all the hype and need for change, nah it's political. Haven't you people seen Ice Age 1 & 2? It's all covered in those movies first it freezes then it melts, we're ending the melting phase. Unless you want to say all the methane coing out of their arses caused global warming 40000 years ago.

I agree it is a cycle. One valcanic eruption can put out more CO2 gas, ash and God knows what else, than man ever has total. I believe that once the planet get to some point were the air contains too much CO2 and water and such" that some say holds in the heat" it will start blocking some of the sun and we will have global cooling. Earth has had many heating and cooling cycles, not just one.

Is there Global Warming? YES, goes through cooling and warming periods.

Does modern man impact these cycles? YES. You can not argue that there is no impact. The question (or argument) is how SIGNIFICANT is the impact.

Re: Do you guys believe in Global Warming?

I didn't answer the poll, because I don't know "definitely" one way or the other. I think there is a good possibility it is caused by man, and if I had to lean one way or the other, it would be that way, but I can't say it is "definitely" caused by man. The rapid melting of global ice caps is extremely disturbing though. I definitely DO NOT take the conservative approach of denying man's part in global warming altogether. Conservatives are trying to ignore the problem to keep up profits for their big-oil contributors.

Think of it this way: environmentalist groups don't have money to gain by espousing their views like oil companies do. Oil companies have a lot to lose if a new (possible) reality is accepted. What do one-issue organizations like Green Peace have to gain by getting people to stop polluting? They get to say they were right? My point is that their motives are a little more pure. Sure, they have political motivations just like everyone else, but they're not in the BIG MONEY like the oil companies.

Re: Do you guys believe in Global Warming?

This is gonna be long, stick with me.

Climate scientists know all about natural cycles. And 99+% of climate scientists say the contribution of man to increase the greenhouse effect (man's contribution is what is meant by global warming) is significant and serious. The media covers the skeptics more than they deserve, some are simply defending their political and economic interests. In reference to the skeptics as reported by the media:

"Such statements suggest that there might be substantive disagreement in the scientific community about the reality of anthropogenic climate change. This is not the case."

                            http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/conten.../306/5702/1686

900+ articles in the scientific literature (everything with the words global warming from 1993-2003) were surveyed above. The number that said this was a natural cycle? 0. Zero.

That article is two years old. In those two years the scientific consensus has gotten substantially stronger.

The problem is this. Our civilization is not setup for rapid climate change. We'll have droughts some places and floods in others. Our agricultural systems will be disrupted. We have a lot of very expensive stuff sitting almost at sea level. First there'll be flooding due to increased sea levels in storms, then just flooding. It's all going to cost us hundreds of billions of dollars to cope.

Tha's for a rich country. Poor countries like Bangladesh have a lot of agriculture in low coastal areas. Salt water intrusions will wreck that. They can barely feed themselves as it is. A lot of people are going to starve to death.

Yes there are natural cycles. They wiped out some animals. This one is unnatural and very rapid (by historical standards) and will damage a technological civilization not at all setup to deal with it.

There are global warming alarmists. Gore's stuff is basically sound but he spins it even worse than it is. These guys are not alarmists, and represent the science as it is:

The Bush Administration just proposed to list the polar bear as threatened because of global warming. That's the Bush Administration, folks. Think the Interior Department could have gotten that out if it wasn't gold plated science?
