  • Just seeking advice...

Basically my 99 Camaro has hit the crapper.. already had the engine replaced under warranty.. now the replacement motor is crap as well. Busted rod my good friend/mechanic said.. got a second opinion and I was told the same thing. I don't have the money to fix it.. nor the know how to do it myself.. let alone the tools.. I have a crappy winter car which will do (wouldn't drive the camaro till april-may anyway.) So now I'm at a crossroads with this thing. I have lots of neat stuff that I could part out.. halo head lights, ground effects, wings west front end.. 2 sets of chrome rims.. 3 piece spoiler.. t-tops.. i mean.. i'm sure I could recoup the money.. hell everything is in great shape but the motor. I'd sell it here.. give out my phone number and address.. Would never do anything shady. What would you guys do in my position? I bought it in 03' with 63k miles.. now it's at 106k. I love it to pieces.. and if someone has a BIG heart and likes replacing motors in their spare time lol.. but seriously.. what would you guys do? I could really use the money.. so sad :( sorry for the minor rambling

2 years ago.. the warranty company went out of business but the dealership honored it anyway.. due to the cost.. they said they weren't going to honor it anymore

Sell one set of chrome rims for some cash. Thats a start, and you could always take up a second job. Also just a thought some schools/universities take cars for projects, so the students have something to work on, and get some good labor for little or nothing at all.

good lookin' out buddy.. too bad the chromies are off a Trans Am.. 16 inch ABS chrome.. oh well.. yeah.. first time i've lived on my own since i was active duty... full time in school.. and i have to full time work.. paying for it all myself (forgot to file taxes last year.. gotta wait to do some financial aid). Not trying to spill a guilt trip.. just trying to see what others would do in my situation.. right now parting it out to you guys sounds great.. dang.. I still have my custom made sub boxes that fit into the nooks and crannies of the trunk.. my pretty little 3 inch magnaflow.. oh well.. but seriously.. just seeking advice..right now i'm pretty set on parting it out

Where's elyria at? Which state? I might be interested in buying the car as a whole if it only needs a motor.

Yeah, you could probably find a use engine for low as $300. Then you and your mechanic friend do the job itself. You may not be mechanically incline but just dive in there and learn how. This is the best way to learn anyway.

Also best way to save money. This time don't floor it so much and be sure there's fluids in there so you don't damage it.
