Beckham is coming to the LA Galaxy. He made the move over from Europe for 250 million (:omg:) dollars over 5 years!

i heard this last night. it's freaking nutts. i'm suprised the usa paid that much for a sport that isn't that big in the us. i'm all about soccer so it makes me happy. and now there is a new us hottie!:drool:

I just can't believe anyone is worth that much. Beckham did say he's not doing it for the money. Rather he wants to make the sport popular here.:rolleyes:

The US is pretty much the only place soccer isn't a huge sport. Its just starting its life here and soon people will love it. Once a generation has grown up with a professional soccer league then it starts to take effect. Sooner or later america will have real football.

I'm a big soccer fan, at least by US standards, but I can't see how he's going to earn his keep. $250M for a 5-year deal. How on EARTH is he going to bring in $50 million a year to the entirety of MLS, much less L.A.? This ain't Europe, and it isn't going to become Europe in 5 short years.

Nice publicity stunt, but a bad business decision, IMO.

Beckham said it was going to be a new challenge...to get soccer to grow in the US. yeah it'll be a challenge...definitely. i can't see how L.A. can afford this contract...maybe they are expecting to fill out their stadiums solely with the ladies? i dunno. either way...i know i'll be going to the Houston vs. L.A. game when they are in Houston...reigning national champs against a team including a great player from overseas...should be a good match. also heard a rumor about Zidane coming over here as well...wouldn't that just be interesting?

just sayin what i heard...i doubt its true...in fact..can't see why Beckham is coming over here other than it'll be easier to keep pace with the quality of MLS play. besides...Zidane butted heads with one player in the world cup...hardly what i would call a "fighting tradition"...plenty of other players have a worse rep than he for being a "fighter"
