no body gives a crap about soccer. plan and simple. soccer is in all the school systems around here plug leagues and no one cars. if anything, with the hug pay out, now they will not beable to buy other good players no to mention he is over the hill when it comes to playing.

He is live Dennis Rodman when he started coloring his hair and wearing dresses. wasn't jack in the game but was a big name

Beckham isn't a bad player. he's old yeah...doesn't mean he is a bad player. and what other "good" players are you talking about? i'm suprised Beckham is even coming over here. and more people care about soccer than you think...just b/c you don't and some people on this baord don't...doesn't mean its the general concensus. it would be bigger if more games were broadcasted, but due to the majority of the greats being overseas...they wouldn't be able to air them live until 3 or 4 am. its not as big as say football or basketball...but its popularity in the US apparently warrants a team spending $250 mil on one player...

You're right, Beckham would fit right in here along with all the overrated U.S. players.

All i can say is that hes a has-been, and has been for a while. You know how you can tell? He played for Real Madrid. Anyone whos played for Real Madrid is a has-been, just like ole Fighty McFrenchy. That guy was done the minute he left Man U.

well apparently he's good enough to still get paid to play a sport...just like all the players in the MLS...and apparently he's still good enough to make a world cup team as well...

as far as US players...who's says they're overrated? MLS sucks compared to the European Leagues...no doubts there...so what makes them overrated when everyone knows they can't run with clubs like Man U, Barcelona, Juventus, Fulham, and Arsenal? the match that the Red Bulls and Barcelona had proved that when the Red Bulls lost 4-1. everyone knows US soccer isn't up to the bar set by the European and English leagues.

just because Italy won the world cup...doesn't mean they have the best players...they just had the best TEAM that worked together in the right ways in the right situations.

Really? And what world cup team would he play for then? He was cut about 5 years too late IMO.

Fulham?? Fulham???! FULHAM? You must have confused them with Chelsea... although i can't see how cuz they're nothing alike (cept that they play in london).

Well if memory serves me right...Beckham was on the England's World Cup team this past FIFA World Cup...i never said he'd make the next one...i said he was good enough this past year to be on it and actually see playing time...

and if memory serves me right once again...Fulham is a soccer club...just like Man U, Barcelona, and Juventus are all soccer clubs...maybe i'm missing something

no, i understand that, but i still stand behind my statement. hell, get someone like gattuso, who is an old man, done playing in europe, and that would still be such a breakthrough in MLA soccer.
(ive always thought that the italians have the perfect mixture of the fancy playing styles of brazil/argentina, and the more basic style of the british.)

Eh eh ehh, you said that he was (and i quote) "still good enough to make a world cup team" which is incorrect cuz he isn't "still good enough" cuz he didn't make the England national squad, hence not being (currently) on a world cup team.

The clubs you were naming were all top class teams... cept Fulham.. which came literally out of left field. Its like saying "Well you can't expect NFL Europe teams to run with quality teams the likes of the Pats, the Colts, the Ravens, and the Oakland Raiders." Kinda wierd.

                          Re: David Beckham

Soccer blows. Boring sport. Wanna watch players moving a ball around and get bloody, injured, and pounded, watch rugby. Wanna watch a sport where it takes half a brain to play AND understand, watch Futbol Americano, aka NFL. Soccer is a simple-minded game for simple-minded people. Hell, I didn't know who David Beckam was until I found out he's married to that Spice girl.

Soccer will never have a rock to stand on in the US because of Football. The ratings and statistics don't lie, seeing as the Superbowl is the most watched television event in the world.

This ain't Europe, and it isn't going to become Europe in 5 short years.
                          Exactly.

way to twist words...congrats on being a master manipulator. you know what i meant so don't try and put words in my mouth. this entire time i have been referring to this past world cup. he played for a world cup team this past year...which is still recent...therefore...good enough to play on one still...i seriously doubt he got so terrible all of the sudden that he wouldn't have been able to perform the way he did in this past world cup. the fact is he played on a world cup team within the last year.

as for fulham...i was naming clubs...big deal if fulham isn't a huge one...you think just because it isn't man u or barcelona that they don't even deserve to be mentioned? very narrow minded. what about teams like southend utd....or west ham...not the biggest names but they still managed to take down man u this past year...hmm..."kinda weird"

...soccer is simple-minded? soccer is spurt of the moment whereas football has set plays that are run in intervals. you try running up and down a 125yd field while still managing to concentrate on controlling the ball with your feet and having awareness of both the field and the players around you for 45 minutes, no timeouts, and only 3 substitutions per game. its not so simple...
