those numbers are terrible for such high revs. 111tq :<

        plus its fwd.

the only thing he has over you is less weight.

and since its a manual theres more room for him to mess up.

also gm autos are typically much better than other manufacturers'. just because its an auto doesnt make it (significantly) slower.

and at the end of the day even if he won, who cares. your car is better in every other department. (namely looks)

if/when you do race, do some quick weight reudctions. take out your rear seats, spare tire/jack, any crap lyin around, etc.
how do you take out the rear seats? and i got another question when u rev up to launch say 1k rpm and gun it is it supposed to burn off? cuz i tried that 1 time and all my car did was spin for bout 2-3 seconds...silly question but ive never raced drag strip style

The lowest weight I saw of any Civic on edmunds.com was 2500 lbs. He's gotta do some major work to get that car down to 1800 lbs.

My Camaro's a bone stock 3.4L and every ricer I've raced gets smoked off the line, the Camaro's torque is just too much. Talking about his compression ratios is great, but he'll need a lot to catch up if you open up several lengths on the start.

I say kick the tires and light fires and go kill yourself a ricer...
The '88 Civc HF weighs 1834 lbs, the '88-89 Civic DX weighs 2013 lbs, and the '92 Civic CX weighs 2094lbs - all stock hatchback weights. Other models for '88-91 Civics are only around 100lbs more. The '88-91 (fourth gens) are the years to have for the Civics because of their suspension and low weight (even if heavier than the 3rd gens). The 92+ civics don't really handle any better and are a couple hundred pounds heavier. An 1800lb Civic with 160hp and 111lbft will suprise you if he gets a good launch, especially if the engine has a lightweight flywheel attached.

The '90 Integra RS I setup for my brother (2340lbs with full tank of gas, stock B18A1 motor with 130hp@6000rpm and 121lbft@5000rpm, custom fabbed intake/exhaust, ACT 8.8lb flywheel, and autocross/roadcourse suspension) will launch from a stop just as hard as my '98 Camaro (3250lbs with full tank, stock motor, 5-speed transmission and 3.23 rear end) and stay even until the 1/8 mile [Integra 10.187 @ 70.19mph, Camaro 10.139 @ 70.21mph] where the camaro goes on to edge it out by about 0.1 second in the 1/4. The Integra can probably keep up or beat the Camaro now with some changes we have done to it (taken off some 20lbs, reworked the intake/exhaust, and advanced the timing to where it should have been in the first place...)

If it's a properly prepared '88-'91 civic with a B16A motor/transmission you better hope he doesn't get a good launch if you want to beat him. If its an EG civic (92-95 Hatchback) or newer then you have a chance - there's no way it weighs close to 1800lbs, it would be a big stretch to even get it close to 2000lbs.

After reading this. The civic guy is clueless but he has a good chance of winning if you don't know how to launch your car.

Manual > Auto unless you moddify the auto. Autos blow unless you snag tuning and a stall.

yes that will make you spin'em unless you got some tires w/ good traction

if your gonna neutral-drop it, go to the highest point (rpms) where you still get good traction (that will **** your trans in the long run) What year civic?

If you have an auto, it read like you do at the beginning, don't put it in neutral. Just leave it in drive put one foot on the brake put the other on the gas and rev it to about 1800. That's about the limit on our stock auto trans before it will start moving. Light turns green let your foot off the brake and go.

If his car is a 91 and it 160 HP it's either not the stock engine, i.e. swapped with a b16 or he's modified a lot.
Yeah if you don't have traction control they will break loose for sure. I don't have the rear suspension setup or slicks to make it really hook so I keep it on for the launch and switch it off when it goes. I lose a little bit but the intial thrust is what I'm looking for.
