  • Fast and the Furious Flaws

As I have explained in past threads, I run a car club for at risk teens at the high school I teach at. In doing this I hear some wild "car tails" daily, but I also see and hear Fast and the Furious often; the kids love these movies. I thought it would be fun to start a thread where people can point out problems with the film. There are so many, but pick your favorite.

"Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" On the first racing scene with the viper, both cars are flooring it through the construction area; we are to believe they are going as fast as they can, yet the pick up truck with the kids filming in the back stay in front of them the whole time. Must be a fast truck!

How about the whole movie? You want sepcifics? The effect of nitrous does not cause a warp in time to appear your going the speed of light.
Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

Re: Fast and the Furious Flaws

all three have serious flaws and they all run together to me. I know in one of the movies, there was a crapload of shifting up on a long flat stretch. How many gears does an evo have? 15?

In the first movie, the car is smoking and barely runs, but they take off in it when the cops show up.

The "double clutch" line in the first movie had to be the dumbest thing ever said in a movie.

In the second movie, they say they can't beat a hemi or a Yenko, but in the first movie it's a push with a fully blown charger.

landing a car on a boat!?!

There was a bunch of problems in the opening scene with the Viper in the third one. I don't recall them all now. I think there was tire squeal on the dirt.

Hood scoops on the roof make you go faster (WTF are those for anyway?)

Holy crap, I could go on forever.

hitting the ground after ramping off a bridge will not leave your bumper intact. Never do u see a tire blowout in these movies either. Imagine that happening when you drift 50mph around a crowded street.

Tokyo Drift: Maybe I am wrong on this one, but I remember the incomplete Mustang not haveing paint, yet after being waxed, it shines up new; with racing stripes. On the same subject; they put the Nissan motor in the mustang because he has no Drift cars left for the big race. They seem to build that car in 1 night; all the people helping him with the car have their own drift cars; why didn't he use one of theirs?

                Just found this one online:
During the first night race when Dom puts his rx-7 in first gear and drops the clutch it shows pistons and the inside of the engine but an rx-7 is a rotary engined car and doesn't pistons.

Re: Fast and the Furious Flaws

During the final race we see Dom shifting gears in the Dodge; however, when he is shifting after both drivers know the train is coming, we see the pedals are set up for an automatic car. Dom's hand movement on the shifter suggests he shifts up and over into 5th gear, which no aftermarket automatic transmission has a setup for.

In the beginning when Brian (Paul Walker) is test driving the Eclipse at the parking lot, there are a total of seven gear shifts that are noticeable. At least six are shown and the seventh comes during a camera angle outside the car, but we can hear the RPMs drop as the driver makes a shift.

During the first race scene some of the audio is incorrectly matched, this results in Suki's S2000 having the engine note from Orange Julius's RX7 and vice-versa. This also occurred during the credits CG animation.

The Corvette crash was not part of the original script and the original Corvette was crashed. Fortunately, the stunt driver safely walked out of the wreckage without any injuries at all.

The Nissan Skyline that jumped the bridge suffered major damage to the steering, suspension and tracking and was undriveable afterwards. The Skyline pulling up to the finish line is a completely different one. There were at least five different Nissan Skylines used for the movie that represented Brian's car, most of them being used in the jump scene.

                      Me

                      The fast and the furious

When the "gang" stops infront of dom's shop and are discussing whats wrong with one of their cars he mentions, "a fuel line has a nasty hole... and thats why your unloading in 3rd." Even if part of this made sense. Anyone know what happens with nitrous and a lack of fuel?

Brian complains to the performance store owner that he needs nitrous because he was topping out at (whatever mph he said). To my knowledge, nitrous doesn't increase your top speed when your out of gear.. your out of gear...

Nitrous causing a floor pan to drop....

Alot of the car noises are just flat out WRONG. Check the rx-7 vs any REAL rx-7.

Anyone ever had time to play with a laptop during a street race?

Been too long since I watched these movies or I'd come up with more.
