If you are going to be a car salesman, it's always best to go to a new car dealership or a pre-owned certified dealership. They sell the most and depending on what parts of the country you work at......you are looking at a salary from anywhere to 30k and up plus commission.
I have trained to be a car salesman, which was basically 2 weeks working the lot......but a computer job had opened up and I went the route of more money. If you like to BS and are a good people person, then it's fun as pie. If you get nervous around different types of people or don't mind spreading a little white lie every once in awhile then this is not the job for you.
Also, you have to be willing to kiss a lot of @$$ to get those sales. (that's the one part I didn't like)
How exactly do you plan on walking in and being the manager?
personally, i think being a car salesman is a crappy job. not stable since most get commission and the hours are long and hard. kissing *** and dealing directly with people at their dumbest moments and getting screwed by people out to just drive the cars and have no intention of buying anything.

That's only with used cars. Although, some salesmen that sell new cars will tell a little white lie about a feature that the car has, but it really doesn't. Or make up some type of spec for the engine. Say it has more hp than it really does, or some new feature with the fuel injection.

Any car salesman will end up selling some used cars, thats how the dealerships make their profits btw.

actually most of the business stuff I have read is that a big portion of the profit for dealerships these days is made in the shop. 100%and up markup on parts plus charging more than double what they pay the techs who do the work.
Since buyers have gotten more informed and with places like CarMax cars have become somewhat a commodity. Now don't get me wrong when a dealer says they are selling below invoice they are still making money off the sale but I'm talking percentages of profit, over half the profit is coming from the shop these days.
