how would u know if the info on these papers is correct? Could be "F" graded papers, and now someone else is using bunk info.
QFT.
I wouldnt do it. Colleges are sooooooo strict about plagarim now-a-days that even IF Vanquish is right (I dont think he is) and its not considered "plagarism", the university will call it whatever they want and you will still fail the class plain and simple.
Well, I have used others papers, though changing some lines that I felt would earn a better grade and I have submitted my papers to a website like these before (for the $$$ of course) and I was never caught or questioned.
And I know others that went through college purchasing papers off the internet and were never caught.
IF someone says they don't want a dollar anymore and throw it on the ground and you pick it up and keep it, is that theft?
Oh my God, that's a bull**** comparison. Intellectual property is not handled the same way material property is, so your 'lil anecdote is no good.

Im sure there will be people that think they can get away with plagiarizing a whole paper word for word. But if you have thousands of papers, thats a thousand different points of view that may help you write a very good paper of your own.
i think im going to try it, ill let you know how it goes
yea, a free library is much more cost-effective than that site...cuz the way you're using it, you're going to have to go to the library afterwards anyway, so just cut out the middle-man and save some cash

That's 100% plagerism. You don't deserve your degree.

so just cuz "others" got away with it, they should do it? Cuz I know a handful of people who aren't in school anymore because they got caught.
Plain and simple, the risks severly outweigh the benefits

You obviously don't understand the concept of plagiarism. Its more like finding an unpublished Shakespeare play and telling everyone you wrote it. SpeedingFirebird is right, it has nothing to do with rights. A college paper is supposed to be YOUR ideas, written with YOUR words. Trust me when I say it's not worth it. I work in student affairs at a college and have a good friend that works in Judicial Affairs, it's nothing to leave to a "I probably won't get caught" because he gets people in every week caught copying papers. You've really got to ask yourself, is it worth getting thrown out of college because you're too much of a lazy @ss to get the education you're paying for? Because if it is then you really don't belong in college. (and when I say you, I'm not referring to anyone in particular, just anyone willing to do that)
Just my opinion
to Meatyshells:
using someone else's paper for ideas is perfectly legal as others have stated, and I agree with them that a library is a much better place to find such papers. But if you really want to pay money for some ideas that's your own business.
i didnt read this whole thing... but some of you guys are honestly retarded (mainly vanquish)
if i was out drinking instead of studying, i would rather talk to the teacher and turn it in a day late (and get the half grade markdown or whatever) than take someone elses work. i personally have pride in my thoughts. i know that i have very strong opinions, and i would be embarassed if i turned something in that did not show my own beliefs and hard work. no, i dont always get A's, but i always feel good about what i turn in.
how would you feel if you were up all night putting your thoughts together, and writing a long paper, and the kid who sits next to you in class went to a website, and got a better grade than you? that, my friend, is plagiarism. it has nothing to do with if the person wants credit or no. it has to do with respecting the professor enough to do your own work. it is a crime to plagiarize. maybe in court you could explain to the judge that the person gave you the right to use their work, but dont even try passing that sh!t on a teacher, because that has to do with dedication and respect, not legality.

I am a History Teach (high school); call it what you want, but it’s dishonest; and one day you will get caught. I run every 4 papers through a web sight that searches all web sites for the information. You chose to be in College for a reason; if you want steal someone else’s ideas, why even go to College.
and all it takes is a teacher to do turnitin.com doesn't matter what happens what people say, if someone turns the same paper into you, it will match the text like a google search. Teachers will charge you wiht plagerism if a certain percent matches.
I actually have a friend that was was a TA, and I was hanging out with her and they were checking papers for plagerism, was funny, they were pushing to expel 2 kids from the school. 40% of their papers were plagerized.
Turnitin.com is great; I have seen an entire paper turn up red. I still have people turning the same paper in the same class. When two people turn in the same paper in a class of 20; it dosent take a rocket scientist. Those are the kids I make give a pop-oral report on their papers in front of the class.

QFT! for those of you who use these sites, stop!!!!!!! you will be flunked in your class.. you will go on some sort of probation.. you will be expelled from school if you are a repeat offender...
ITS NOT WORTH IT!!!!!
seriously.. you think you are the only one searching that site? like the site cares if its making money from students or professors???? dont' fool yourself.
teachers have these type of things too. In fact, some are much more powerful than just a full paper search... they'll search individual phrases and bounce back all papers in their data bases with that phrase. So even if you use just one paragraph, you are still plagerizing. You will still get busted.
And yes, if you still must feel the need to copy some one elses work, you could at least site the entire paper, and give them credit. If they give consent, and you properly site the work, you technically aren't plagerizing. however, its not going to go well to turn in a paper that you openly admit to copying the entire thing.
you are in college for a reason... study. youll understand better when you graduate and are now expected to know the stuff you didnt feel necessary at the time. Boss's dont like the excuse "well, i was sick for that day in class" or "it was my buddy's b-day so i went out and got hammered and didnt bother doing this hw.."

Here's my interjection. I work at a community college in the same office as the risk management and legal affairs dept, i.e. the school attorney. Believe me it isn't taken lightly if someone borrows someone else's ideas. I've see a few occasions where people thought they could get away with it and found out through failing a class and expulsion they couldn't. I can't say 100% where they got their info from to copy but the fact remains like Speeding Firebird Said "that is literary theft". <that is how you quote and give credit to an authors work correctly. :)
Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.
ok, so we all agree its dishonest on some level because you didnt do the work yourself riiiiight?
so pretty much, it'd be like putting your name on someone elses test and they dont care, which would be cheating, riiiight?
well, would you like your heart surgeon to have cheated during med school?
no you wouldn't. you need to do the work to get anything outta college, it sucks but thats the way it is and you wind up better for it.
