82-84 trans am/camaro

i heard that the 82-84 models were some of the lightest trans am/camaro's ever built is this true? reason im askin is i want to build up a 83 firebird i could probly dig up real cheap i already have a 350 i can put in it and build up:naughty:

so as far as 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th gens go which is the lightest? is it 3rd gen? or 1st? if a 87 gta weighs bout the same as a 82-84 then ill just mod a gta :naughty:

thats what i thought too and always thought thats why our v6's beat those cars stock... very weird but hey if there truely the lightest then im goin for the 3rd gen :)

ha! put it this way..

stock lt1 in a 4th gen times: 14s/high 13s
stock lt1 in a 3rd gen times: low 13s

you tell me which is lighter

b/c our base v6's are more powerful than almost all of the 80's v8's...that's sad

4th gens are heavier, cars have progressively been getting heavier over the years, but have been becoming increasingly more safe though.

gta = one of the heaviest 3rd gens around. you want to start w/a stipped down model & go from there.

yeah so i guess ill get the 83 and just put a few gta parts on it and make it a look alike? shouldnt be too heavu with just ground fx and gta wheels
