    i have to agree.

if you have to take a step back in the short term, your determination will not fail you in the long term.

don't give up. understand that you may have a temporary setback, but your patience and determination will see you to your goal.

Not sure what kind of "apprenticeship" this is that you're in, but if they are legally your employer, then I'm pretty sure that Federal law requires them to give you adequate leave to get that medical care under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). If you're left with any continuing disability after treatment, you've got certain rights to reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that they have to recognize.

If this is a paid apprenticeship, their HR department should be able to help you out with those FMLA and/or ADA compliance issues. Before you complain that those things are some kind of charity, consider that they're what "we the people" of the United States believe are RIGHTS that every American has, to be given appropriate and fair consideration when these kinds of medical issues come up.

that is if they employ enough people to qualify for FMLA

            Re: Update on my situation.....

Guys, I appreciate some of the suggestions, I really do, and the support. I have just spent my 9th day, RECORD third day in a row, in the ER this morning. I have managed to rack up $5000 in bills in these 9 visits, and now I am really starting to get desperate. Im having a hard time right now concentrating on the computer screen to simply type this post, but I wanted to keep everyone updated.

The situation I am in with the IBEW is a little difficult to explain, but here I go. I am not yet an official "brother" of the local 134 until I get thru the first 11 week training course, as well as three months in the field. Once I have done that, I will have gotten what is called a "hard card". This card is what I show the union hall whenever I need to get a job, but its still classified as an apprentice's card. I can only work in the 134's area, which is Chicago and Cook county. Heres the part that makes this difficult. Because I am not yet an official "brother" of the IBEW, the EJATT, IBEW-NECA training co-op, has a legal right to let go of whoever they want, whenever they want within the first two years of the apprenticeship. Only at the start of my third year are they then obligated to finish my training. Now within those first two years, all decisions regarding my apprenticeship status is decided by a committee made up of members of the IBEW and NECA. Within this committee, I can have representation on my behalf, UNLESS I have LESS than 6 months in the apprenticeship, in which case the committee can make whatever desicion they want without me having ANY representation.

What worries me the most is that they, within their rights, can deem me "medically unfit" to continue with the apprenticeship, at which point it is over. There is no second chance. No step back. No temporary setback. No amount of determination can overturn their desicion. If they deem me medically unfit, and do not allow me to take time for my surgury and recovery, then I will not become a C-card electrician. Its that simple. All the determination, will power, and patience isn't going to mean ****. It will be over, and there will be nothing I can do but to accept it. Will they go to that extent....im not sure yet. I may have to prove to these people that its a rare thing, that once it is fixed, I will never have to deal with it again. But it is really a 50/50 shot if I get to keep my apprenticeship or not. I will find out what I need to know tomorrow.

Gotchya bro...but like I said, shoot me an email if needed and I'll do what I can to help. I'll even send you my cell # if you want. You've got my, and many other's support
Hockeyman, Bibby, 93threefour, drumpling(you know who you are), and everyone else, I appreciate your support. I always have gotten good support from the members of this board. There are alot of things I argue about on here, but thru it all, this is a good place to be, that why I have been a member here for almost 6 years.

I have an appointment with a very good specialist at Rush Hospital in Chicago on Saturday next weekend. Hopefully I will finally get some answers that I have needed, get a surgury date setup. There are risks with this surgury, and there is only a 5% success rate without being somewhat debilitated, but I will talk to him then and keep everyone updated.

            Thanks guys

              Re: Update on my situation.....

Hey everyone, I am Wes's girlfriend. I think I have posted on here once before maybe. I just look at it occassionally to see if I have something to say, and I guess this is one of the rare times I do!

I don't know if he will get a chance to see this over the weekend.... His hard drive on his computer died, so he has been without access to a computer for a couple days and I don't know if he will be able to get access over the weekend. He'll probably yell at me for stealing his chance to update you guys, but oh well!

Anyway... Thank you all for your support of him, it really makes me happy to know he's got some good people he can talk to other than myself. While he was in the hospital, I was 130 miles away at school and unable to be there so the only way I knew to help was to make phone calls. I got him into a specialist this past Tuesday and we may have found a treatment that is working! He hasn't been in the hospital since he started it!

He is also doing what he can right now to talk with the IBEW about re-starting his apprenticeship in April when their new class session begins. So things are maybe starting to look up! One problem left would be the money thing. So if anyone has any good fundraising ideas, let him know, lol. He's got some potential jobs lined up to carry him over until April, but then he would be in class full time and not able to work very much so any get rich quick schemes or anything would be helpful, lol.

Thanks for your support guys! :)

Thanks :) Glad to know he speaks well of me. I have been doing everything in my power to make things easier for him. People who just give up when things get hard are dumb. I love him, I'm not about to leave just because things are hard!

Well, we have them around here all of the time. Not sure if the rest of the country calls it that though...

Basically, you get a bunch of people likefriends, relatives, co-workers, etc. that buy a ticket from someone who's running the whole operation. That person rents a hall and goes door to door to vendors who'll donate prizes, food & alcohol to the beef-n-beer, and the prizes are rallied off to people who bought tickets to the event. As people enter the door to the event, you hand out tickets that will be drawn from a bucket to see who win's what. All proceedes then go to Wes (which would have been the admission to the event, and if cash had been donated by vendors). It can be a bit more complicated than that, but it's basically a beef-n-beer in a nutshell.

Hmmm.... that might be a good idea if we could figure out a way to organize that.... although getting enough pepole to come to make it worth it might be hard :(
