OK, supposedly, the military pays for up to 20K in existing student loans, is that federal loans or all student loans? probably a recruiter question huh?

Depending on the job you choose and the direction you choose to go in the military, job, length of time, schooling will determine loan amount and sign on bonus. I was going to sign up for 6 years and was "promised" 20 k once basic and AIT was complete.

the best answers you cain get are not here, but a recruiter for each service you're looking into.

also try each services web site for info, & http://www.military.com/ I don't go to that site, but there seems to be some info there too.

But as already stated, talk to recruiters. I know they are salemen, but they will be able to answer questions. Dont feel stupid by asking questions either, its okay to do so. The military isnt common knowledge and the only way to learn is to ask :)

I just down right despise recruiters. they have harassed me for years now.

it looks like i do have some options to become an officer but we will see. any more info?

just rember thay "are" like car sales men, talk to "all" the branches, then go back to each and see who will give you the best deal... they may even offer to pay for you to finish college on a delayed entry... and dont tell them if you prefer one over the other...

Don't worry about the recruiter. Treat them like you would as a car salesman. Make it clear your not going to take any of their bs and just tell them you won't accept their crap. If your not happy just tell him to stick it and talk to the next person in the office. Seriously your not in so they can't do anything, if they have that much of a problem make them a deal. Tell them that if they're straight forward with you that when you get back they can drop you and make you do pushups as much as they want. It'll boost their egos and by that time 40 pushups isn't going to phase you, trust me.

I was at a point in my life where I had run out of options at that point, 19 years old, was living in a ****ty situation and really had nothing. My whole family had or is serving in the army so I enlisted. Felt really great about it because it was one of the first things I did on my own. Got through 8 1/2 weeks of basic and my knee went out. Then just sat around and waited to get discharged. Oh yeah that's another thing, don't lie about any medical crap. If they find out about any preexisting conditions they WILL NOT take it easy on you, I will testify to that.

Whatever they promise you, get it in writing, and get it signed.... preferrably by the recruiter AND a secondary witness.

I've heard waaaay to many stories about people getting screwed on their sign up bonuses, their student loan repayments, and their job assignments. Just make sure you read all the fine print.

no you can't. once you sign that contract they really do own you. Make sure it is truly what you want to do and that you get as much as you can for yourself because you have to be as happy with it as possible.

To be a pilot! But then I got disqualified for a medical issue that I dont eve have :mad: :cry: :( :rant:

But I still got selected for Space and Missiles which was my 3rd choice on my dream sheet.

I also look at it this way, even if I am not going to be a pilot (which i have wanted to do all my life) I still have a guarenteed job after college, full benefits, paid healthcare, my family is taken care of, access to sweet facilities on base, a paycheck every month and a chance for retirement of 50% or better.
