BTW, I forgot to mention one more thing that is good about being in the military, you dont have to get your car registered in the state of which you live.
For example, I am moving to California in June or July, my car is waaaaaay too illegal in CA, but because I am military, I dont have to demod or change anything :)
Whatever they promise you, get it in writing, and get it signed.... preferrably by the recruiter AND a secondary witness.
I've heard waaaay to many stories about people getting screwed on their sign up bonuses, their student loan repayments, and their job assignments. Just make sure you read all the fine print.
You arent guaranteed a job. You may get to make a "dream sheet" but it is all based on your abilities and qualifications(testing).
I hate how the AF sends my cousin all around the US when he wanted to live here (we have a major AFB)!! *Spit*!
2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!

That's the military for you. If you want to have your choice of base then do a nice long tour overseas. My brother has done 2 tours in Iraq, 1 in Afghanistan and 1 in the DMZ in Korea. He got his choice of station when he got back. Total of about 3 1/2 years overseas.
Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

The jobs of which you are limited to are few far and between for officers, and BLLDOGG wants to be an officer. Engineers, medical personnel are the only career fields that I can think of which are based on qualifications and abilities.
Officers dont need qualifications and abilities for the most part, they need to be leaders, the poeple who work for them are the technicians.

Tell your cousin to suck it up and get used to it  Thats the nature of the military, you move around a lot. Tell him he's lucky to be sent around the states and not sent to Iraq.
bases is one thing I am really curious about. lets say im in the army and not over seas, what do you do? do you just do physical and tactical training all the time or do you have to go find a job wherever they stick you?

Train, train and train some more. :D
They will make dam sure your are very proficient in what you do. Then when you are needed for duty overseas, you are well qualifed and ready to fight.
also, how well do they help with your family? like housing, money, medical, day care, etc?
They help a ton!! Well in the Air Force they do, the AF has the best quality of life and family support for all the branches, but the Army is making big improvements right now too.
For housing, you have the option to live on base for free OR you will get a housing allolwance every month which increases with promotion and varies depending on where you live. For example, most of military people in Hawaii get a bigger paycheck for housing allowance than they do for their basic pay every month because the cost of living is so high.
You are completely, 100% covered as far as your medical benifits go. Your family will ba taken care of thru Tricare. Its not free, but its certainly cheaper than civilian health insurance. And they get can get treated at any base hospital.
Your family aslo has base access so they can shop on base and not have to pay any sales tax. Most bases have a big grocery store (Commissary) and a Base Exchange (similar to Wal-Mart) which have very good prices and no sales tax. They can also use the gym and buy gas on base (which is typically cheaper).
I am not too sure about day care though, I'll try and find out for ya.
I don't care if i go overseas, I want to fight for my country. I just want to go about it different than just walking up and down a death trap and invading peoples space by knocking down doors to maybe find something or someone. I guess working in the automotive area of the military wouldn't kill me, no pun entended...I just do not want to work on them
I know you are sick of working on peoples cars, just an example:
Just saying, if you already trained to be a automotive tech (in the civilian world) and REALLY REALLY wanted to be one in the Services (my situation but with Computers, I cant work on other people's cars unless its a Ferrari/Lambo :) )
they will tell you before you go to MEPS, that "there is no way that they can guarantee you an automotive job or close to it."
I am/was the one complaining about my cousin moving around(I'm sure he doesnt like it).
If you do go to the sandbox, then you will get a bonus, I hear somewhere around $5k - $6k. Am I correct in my assumptions?

It's at least 6k. My brother has been 3 places 4 times and got a bonus each time. He has a wife and three kids but the time away and the bonus money he actually looks forward to it. Granted he isn't in a forward unit, his mos is 63w, light wheel mecahnic.

Thats correct, its called hazardous pay, imminant duty pay or hostile fire pay. How much you get depends on rank (paygrade), time in the hazardous zone, your job etc.
