I'd rather work smart than work physically hard. AF will value and focus on my intellegence (or lack thereof). Yes "squishy" too. But there are other reasons (dont wanna seem biased)

Eh, I wouldnt say "squishy", but the AF definately takes VERY good care of their people and has some of the nicest facilities available on base. They also take very good care of the families of the airmen as well, they have great support programs. The AF also has a very good deployment system too, most people dont have to be deployed for more than 4 months at a time (4 months deployed, 12 months off). Its called the AEF cycle.

I am a little biased cuz I'm Air Force, but the military as a whole is pretty dam good at takin care of its troops over all.

          Re: Everyone in the Military

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, but I had my National Guard weekend this weekend.

AIT is Advanced Individual Training, it's where you learn your specific job.

Also, the Army doesn't have a dream sheet for jobs, except for the officers. They can list the branches they prefer, but it is up to the "needs of the Army" and your skills that determine what you get. The only dream sheet the Army has is what posts you would like... but if they don't have that job there, you ain't going. Most Army bases are one specific branch, like Ft Bragg NC is mostly Airborne Infantry, Ft Knox is Armor, Ft Bliss is Air Defense. So if you go into an Armor field, don't expect to get stationed in Ft Bliss TX.

I spent 3 ½ years in the Airborne Infantry and loved it. You see all that cool stuff on the military channel and stuff, and it really is awesome. There's nothing like clearing a trench system on a live fire range with live grenades and a M60 kicking up the dirt 10 ft in front of you. Then changed my MOS (Military Occupational Specialty, i.e. your job) to work on PATRIOT missile systems. I had alot of fun with that. There's alot of trouble shooting to see what's wrong with it, and liked it alot. I got out in Dec 2004 and joined the FL NG.

          Hope that helped some.

Yeah, you had the definition right, just the wrong word for the letter. I'm sure I could really mess up some Air Force acronyms

who was shooting the m60? Your fellow soldier?
What do you mean by clearing the trench?
Thank god for the Patriot missle! I've never heard of us having to use them but I'm sure we have had to use them alot (not just testing) throughout the years.

That varies though doesnt it? My commander told us the other day that before he took the job he's currently in, he was 4 months on 12 off.

But hey, 15 months is even better :D

some commanders have a different cycle, sort of liek the SF's have. Then there's 365 volunteers, 179 day taskers, etc......

on a side note, my dad was navy, bro was marines, and my dad said for me to go either navy or af or he'll pound me.
