I would buy a new stock LT1. re-freshly built or not, they have been beaten on and think about it, if they are already bored, what if something screws up and you can't bore the cylinders any farther? new block, thats what it means

I wouldnt be worried about the block itself unless I was boosting/spraying it
Now, I would be concerned about that cylinder ridge which is irreversible (which the 3.8 doesnt develop a ridge yay!!!) I <3 the 3.8 soooo much! Just wish it came stock with more SCR.
I'm saying the same as what you said... you can only ream the ridge sooo much and then... new block or new sleeves (if possible, I doubt it).

My G/F's LT1 has 160k and after replacing the rear main the motor has minimal leaks and great oil PSI, still pulls like a mother. And this is no babied block, between me, her, and her dad this car rarely sees shifts below 4500 RPM. :)

ls1 all the way, BUT!! remember it's an aluminum block and the ls1 may not be the easiest motor to work on and definately not the cheapest but at 64k i dont think you will have any problems.
