  • Buying a new vehicle.

Well I am in the process of buying a new vehicle for my wife. We are getting a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4. It has 121,000 miles on it. What do you think? Any opinions. I was also wondering if anyone has any idea about how much it would cost to have the window tinting removed because it is very dark and very illegal here in Florida.

just pull it off...for free, wipe off residue w/ rubbing alcohol and a razer blade. Say, aren't you allowed at least 35% in florida? In michigan you're only allowed the top 4". I have 35%, and i've never been hassled.

I second the "Do It Yourself".

I've had to do it. Save some grief and buy a whole new pack of blades. When one dulls or chips, just toss in another. It will save a lot of time. You may not even need the rubbing alcohol.

Check your laws again. You might only have to remove the tint from the driver and passenger window. The rest may be fine.

Just because they are illegal doesn't mean people don't have them. LOTS of my friends have 5% tint in St. Louis, but its illegal. Besides, look at it this way. If you were an officer, would you be more weary of walking up to a car that you couldn't see into, or one that you could clearly see the occupants of the vehicle? I think they let it go sometimes because its less of a hassle

My dad has 5% all over his truck (both windows and the rear window), as do most of my friends. They've never been pulled over for it, and the cops don't seem to mind it. I've never even been asked about my headlight covers, taillight covers, blinker covers, and having my subs too loud. Heck, I could probably pull a shotgun out of my car and the wouldn't mind, as long as I don't point it at them

Tint is becoming illegal almost everywhere, from what I'm hearing. I know here in MS you can't get an inspection sticker if you have tint on your windows. But, the cops still aren't hastling anyone about it, because it's not that big of a deal.

And as far as inspection sticker goes, I'm friends with a shop that gives the stickers, and I just go give him my 5 dollars and he hands me the sticker, without even checking out my ride.

I have 5% all around. Cops have seen it and they didnt say anything about it.
But I know one of these days I will be pulled over for it. In which case I will rip it off right in front of them :)

I think in fl it's 20% all the way around. But as with all the other laws in florida as long as your aren't blatantly abusing them they don't care at least having to do with cars. I think a good half of the modded cars in the state would not pass even the most basic emissions tests.

Everywhere else seems to have these things, and I always here people complaining that they don't think they can pass them.

What exactly is involved in an emissions test?

I would be more worried about how many miles are on that tranny than the tint. Grand Cherokee's always have problems with the tranny's just like any dodge product. When was the last time that thing was serviced? What is the asking price? I wouldnt pay over 3k for it.

They use some sort of high tech gadgetry and check your exhaust emissions. Each state has its own laws about how "clean" a cars emissions have to be. Here in california if anything but baby foxes comes out of your exhaust they hack your arm off with a meat cleaver.

Maybe if shwartzaneger wasnt too busy running into trees and making himself retarded you all would have fair laws? ;)

Its kinda like an anal probe. They stick this sensor up the tail pipe and see how well the car is braking down the gas, and they make sure the car still has cats.
