Had to post how excited I am... Yngwie Malmsteen is MY #1 favorite guitarist ever (since I first heard him when I was 12 years old) and now I finally have his signature strat (after waiting almost 2 months and being told they were backordered and then... "discontinued".) This guitar is absolutely AWESOME. I've never owned a strat before, (only Ibanez, Jackson and Ovation guitars). It's vintage white with a maple fretboard. American Made. SWEEEEEEEEEEET!
Scalloped fretboard here I come!
I saw them open for Iron Maiden back in '87. Worst opening performance I've ever seen. I think the singer was on acid because he kept brushing his shoulders and looking around like there were ghosts bothering him... we all had a good laugh.
I was just about to ask about the scalloped fretboard. I've played on a bass (billy sheehan signature) with scalloped frets.
I thought it would be difficult to play, but it's not. I found little difference at all. The only thing I noticed is that the strings slip from your fingertips at times, but I think that is because of the highly polished (and slippery) frets. It sounds very clean. It's staying in tune too. How was the bass you played? Similar?

I actually like the scalloped feel, if you are familiar with the two hand tapping style of Sheehan on the bass it actually adds to the ease of playing that style.
I like a lot of the signature guitars, I haven't played the Yngwie but I have on the Eric Johnson strat, Joe satriani and Steve Vai Ibanez's, they all have incredible feel and tone. And the action is always set just right, like it can't be any lower.

Shirl i had no clue you were into guitars How long have you played?
haha! Like 22 years. I've been in and out of bands but now I just play on my own. I have a Jackson custom USA made (custom shop) with skulls airbrushed on it, an Ovation electric accoustic in black with mother of pearl inlays, a purple Ibanez EX and now this one. Years ago, I bought a Steve Vai Gem Ibanez in white with the Vine of Life inlay, but I returned it because the workmanship was poor. The frets were not filed on the edges and the E string would get caught and the frets buzzed. I exchanged it for another one (because the store talked me into it) and I was disappointed AGAIN. The second one had the same problems and was returned.
This Fender is completely smooth as silk. The workmanship is outstanding. Perfect action (very low) and yes, the "finger-tapping" is MUCH easier. I wonder if that's because the wood from the neck is away from the strings.
^ The pics do not do this guitar justice. It's pretty stunning in person. They clear-coated the neck and headstock so that it's smooth as glass and the maple shows through. I was never crazy about the vintage white/yellow color, but it has turned out to be a VERY nice change from my darker colored guitars with Rosewood fretboards and I'm glad I chose it. It REALLY stands out. I didn't want candy apple or sonic blue because those colors didn't look like his "favorite" guitar.
TraditionF, I will DEFINATELY try to get him to sign it at a show when he's in the area.
I've always wanted to learn guiter ........ my HS didn't had it .......... now i am too busy to learn it ........... :( ......... good to know you're happy
I heard about that, but the story was totally different... I heard that he was passed out from drinking too much (on the plane) and the stewardess came over to wake him and poured water on him... and he woke up and freaked and yelled "you've unleashed the ****ing fury!"
Hey guys. For starters I’ve always been a big car guy, I love all types of cars and can appreciate all types of engineering. I’ve always been a Chevy...
