    Re: Military driving video

I saw this on another forum, some military guys over there said its common practice. The people on that road are forewarned that a brigade is coming through. The convoy can't stop, if they stop they are a target for an IED or RPG. They gotta keep moving. Anyone who gets butthurt over this shouldn't

As I've stated before.. I'm not against the troops doing what they can to stay alive. That is by all means the most important thing!

Let me pose this than.... What is the difference between someone trying to target a big HUMVEE vs. a big HUMVEE that has flashing headlights and better damn horn?? I can't really believe that anyone would mistake a HUMVEE for anything else... but to help motivate drivers out of the way... flashing lights and a better horn is not going to attract MORE attention than pushing cars out of the way...

It attracts attention sooner in most cases. I can either attract attention when I ram a car out of my way or I can attract attention the entire time I'm in my car with lights and sounds that don't go away and still have to ram a car out of the way.

Well as opposed to a Hummer, a HMMWV is a tactical vehicle. It has no need for flashing lights or "better" horn. The horn only works if the headlights are on. How tactical is a horn that you can hear from a mile away? It just gives more time for the enemy to prepare.

I think that the video doesn't need to be analyzed frame by frame to see if a HMMWV needs lights and a horn. I'm glad that those soldiers in that HMMWV made it through that day, and I hope they continue to do what they did in the video so that they can come home to their families.

                Re: Military driving video

I hate to post these videos but would some of you rather see this on the nightly news instead? In these videos they were on open roads imagine if they had the bells and whistles that alerted someone of them coming down the street. I mean really it's all about perspective. The only defense they have is that vehicle and if they stop this could happen. To all of you serving past and present I put these up to make a point not to display so please don't get upset. If you are let me know and I'll remove the links.

                EDIT: Links removed

Rob.. not arguing that, if you'll see all of my comments thus far. I want to have everyone of them make it home too.

What they do to survive is what ever is needed!!! To record what they do... is NOT needed. Especially when it comes off like they are screwing around with the comment at the end of that one particular clip.

AGAIN, THIS IS MY OPINION. I'm just saying it how I see it and trying to make sure NO ONE misunderstands me. I have the utmost respect for our MIL men/women. They do things to make you and I safe, and I thank them for that!

PS.. that horn is still way too whimpy!

                    Re: Military driving video

Young... what you posted is just the opposite of what the original video is about. Being in the open like those, are by far the most vulnerable point those guys deal with. Those videos do nothing but show cowardly attacks that the MIL is dealing with. We have to fight fair, while they fight dirty... I don't agree with that at all.

                      Re: Military driving video

Those videos show what can and does happen to them regardless of time and place. It simply shows that if they can do that in the open they can sure as hell do it in a city street regardless if people are around or not. I'm at work and was doing a quick search if you would like I'm sure there are plenty of others that might fit your criteria better. The point I was trying to make was that if they can do it like that then the way they are driving in the city is even more supported. The most vulnerable place for any military vehicle is stuck in a closed in situation such as a city street. In the open there is more room to make emergency maneuvers if needed.

                        Re: Military driving video

I'm not disputing them driving like that to survive. I do understand that. Recording it and posting it? I don't get that. A story would better clarify this, but I don't see that happening, so we all speculate, including me.

Let me make this from a different point.... is this the proper thing to be showing to the public, to get an idea of what our MIL does there? I can think of a dozen different things I would rather have understanding for. A dash cam showing this seems like something a 16 yr old street racer kid would do. "hey look at me..." type of thing.

                        That make sense?

                          Re: Military driving video

I think the main purpose behind video taping it, in most cases, is if something does happen. It helps others see how it may of happened to help identify diffrent tactics used so that it may be able to be identified and averted later. As for what is said no I don't think that's 100% neccesary. Your right it is like a street racer, remember that most of the troops are the same age or younger than the kids making those racing tapes. I think it's easy to debate something when nothing happened. If it was the oppisite and an IED did go off in one of those vehicles then the debate would be diffrent. Probably something along the lines of calling those troops heros and praising them for taking video so others don't fall into the same trap.
