  • How many of you were raise by a Day-Care Center?

I just want to say that I was fortunate to be raised by my mother. But I wonder if these Day Care and their care for kids. I mean I see a lot of kids picking up bad behavior, not getting enough attention, constantly crying with no one to comfort them, and their individual needs are not meet.

My aunt has a huge day care center. It like one worker to every 12-14 kids at a certain age range. That's a lot of kids for one worker.

I have this friend who is a career woman and she had a kid. She works like 12 hours a day--if you include her driving time to that equation it makes it 14 hrs. She get to be with her kid once a week atleast.

I feel kinda bad for the kid. If your going to have a career that going to be your life then why have a kid?

One day I took apart my locomotive set.
I pulled out a little cylinder that you add oil to it and it boils it off so that it creates life like smoke.
I'll be darned if I didnt put the wires in a wall socket and watch the thing blow up in my face!! Luckily there was a fire extinguisher and some kids dad was an electrician.

Depends on the age of kids. For infants, in NY, it is 3 - 1. For older kids, it's like 5 - 1.

For older kids (2 and up) there are several benefits to Daycares. The social interaction is important for growth. Also for all the "bad habits" picked up by other kids, they also pick up good habits (both physical and mental development).

I think parenting has a lot more to do with good behavior then the actual type of environment.

I spent most of my days when i was real young at my grandparents house, as soon as i started kindergarten i was day care all the, and loved it! It was tough at first but you learn to love it. You get to play with kids your age all afternoon long. There was always some type of cool tield trip planned in the summer, nearly everyday. But the most important thing i took away was, and i am gonna make this word up like Stephen Colbert "socialnissity." lol. I went to like 5 different day cares in a short period of time cause my parents couldnt decide which one they liked best. So I learned from a very young age to be social....cause otherwise i would end up at a new place with no friends.

bottom line, i wouldnt have it any other way. I look at my little brother now 12 and 10....and they are way too clung and needing of my parents.

I was a mixture... I did have alot of daycare but my mom was a teacher... so she got home not too long after I got home from school, And I went to an afterschool daycare and also had summers and vacations so it wasnt too bad.

There were some benefits to daycare... I actually liked how things worked out with me. I mean I got the benefit of my mom, but I also had large amounts of social interaction with kids my age. I think it helped me not be a shy person when I am in groups with people. I am very outgoing, and if stuck with a group of people I don't know for an extended period of time I can get in and joke around with them pretty easily.

I went to a private HS and knew alot of kids with great parenting, everything in the world, but if youtook them out of their social group they shut down and were quiet.

I used to work in a daycare center...it was a blast! I always felt a little sorry for those kids that were always picked up last though...kind of sad. Nothing compares to being raised by your parents, no matter how good the daycare center or the people in it.

My parents slpit when i was 5 so mom got a job an hour away and me and my sister went to daycare before school... we go on the bus there. We got off the bus at daycare, and usually stayed until 6pm. But luckily my grandparents and other family decided they wanted to use that time to spend with us.

eh, agree to disagree...im very happy with my outcome when comparing it to my two younger brothers who have stayed home with my mom since birth. They are stuck to my parents side and hate to be seperated. I am far more social because of it and feel it was a valuable....if not the most valualbe life lesson very early on.

That can't be any farther from the truth. Nothing compares to being raised by GOOD parents. There are some kids out there being raised by their parents that need to go to a daycare, just to get out of the hell they are experiencing at home. Be careful not to undermind a daycare, and also be careful not to overestimate the parents in any situation.

Very true. There has to be millions of parents out there not even fit enough to raise a hamster. You see their products all the time on the news... they're the ones murdering and raping people on the street.

                        Good post

I was extremely fortunate to have great parents. I've sat and thought about it for a while and I really can't say that i don't appreciate everything they have done for me. I wouldn't change a thing, they raised me incredibly. After being raised by them, I know how i'm going to raise my child, the exact way i was raised. I had social interaction because of sports. I played basketball, soccer, and baseball my whole life in a CYC league so it was the same group of kids on the team all the way up to 8th grade.
