    Re: exhibition of acceleration?

I've gotten a ticket for excessive acceleration. Ask for traffic court if you haven't taken it yet, otherwise the ticket is kinda pricey :(

Sounds like a catch-all "violation" for something that harms or endangers absolutely nobody and just serves as a convenient means to harrass you because they don't like the way you look or they're just having a bad day and want to take it out on somebody.

I accelerate faster than most every other car on the street, every time, without spinning the tires or losing control in the slightest. That's NOT just cause to give me a ticket. Just because all of the other drivers on the road are comatose soccer moms too busy talking on their cell phones to drive doesn't mean I have to emulate them!

Of course I've never got one of those "excessive acceleration" tickets myself, but if I ever did, I would NOT be very happy about it. Sounds like complete nonsense to me.

I guess the best thing to do is always keep an eye out for cops, and then drive like granny whenever they're in sight. It's worked for me - only one ticket in 28 years of driving, and that one was reduced to a no-points offense.

          Re: exhibition of acceleration?

There's another, called "Show of speed". My father was driving his cuda and left the car in first gear from light to light. So he let the engine rev high, then decelerate with the burble, you know... A cop pulled him over and gave him a ticket for Show of Speed because he didn't actually take off fast. It was going to be points and a hefty fine so he had to get a lawyer.

At least exhibition of acceleration can be interpreted as dangerous... How in the hell do you interpret show of speed as dangerous???

If that's the case, maybe you are better off because he didn't get you for wreckless driving.

yeah... id see if you can fight it.. you have a valid excuse in the "hit water and it got away from me".... DO NOT say something like your frame is bent or they might force some sort of inspection on your vehicle to verify its safe for the road...

i know in my area, some people will sorta race from a light, but only up til the speed limit. so since they arent speeding, cops us that "excessive acceleration" or "display of speed" to ticket people. in my area, that kinda ticket means reckless driving or racing. not good for your record...

find out your local laws however. if they also nailed you for no insurance, then youll probably be in court regardless... hopefully you dont lose your liscense.

i think the law to excessive acceleration is accelerating at a pace 1 second per 10-15 mph..... i am a traffic court expert lol... when you slid did you just squeek ur tires? or did you go sideways......

                    Re: exhibition of acceleration?

no sound was made, I probably didnt go higher than 3.3k Rpms in 1st
It really wasnt even a real fishtail, it was more like... I just let the rear slide out.
I had complete control over it.
God, I've hit icy roads and completely lost control and completely on accident too. That is more dangerous

It wasnt even like I was accelerating!! I just slide out and hit the brakes immediately. A grandma could've done it on accident

Anyways, dont ask why, but I'm more concerned about the no insurance than the exhibition of acceleration (and dont think about it either cause its not what you think ;) lol )
So how can I fight the no insurance? <--- my primary concern!

after the cop wrote me the tickets and had already ran my name... he asked me if I've ever gotten a ticket... I was thinking... duh deee dee deeee

                      Yea, I'm 100% sure I was under the 10-15mph per/every 1 second rule!!

                        Re: exhibition of acceleration?

yea, ok, soo... I'm probably not gonna get out of the tickets (insurance, inspection, registration)
except the exhibition of acceleration (which the cop couldnt proove in the first place...we'll leave it at that).

What would no insurance be? "failure to maintain financial responsibility"?
Cause I've had one of those before....but it was cause I had no registration. So this will be the 2nd "no reg"

In that case when I got the "no registration" the 1st time and he gave me a "failure to maintain financial responsibility"... he gave me a harsher ticket?

Grandpa? Nope, not quite yet. Let's wait until my eldest gets married first, please!

28 years driving and only one ticket - I chalk that up to extremely good luck and a kind of sixth sense as to when cops are around. My ex always used to drive me nuts telling me to slow down. I'm definitely not a slow driver.

P.S. - IMO driving without insurance is just plain dumb. If you make a mistake or lose your job and miss a premium payment or two I could see it, but otherwise I have no sympathy.

                            I quit my job
I knew cops were in the area he came from...I knew it was a high risk
I'm the same as you... I've been avoiding being pulled over for years.
I HATE watching out for cops, cause it is a DISTRACTION and dangerous to the overall public LOL

Moral of the story: if you're gonna loose traction or want to accelerate quick, dont do it in the city

A buddy of mine got the same kind of ticket, but that was on an Army post by an MP. I didn't know civilian cops were that big of d!cks.
