i just finished pledging last night, and holy sh!t its nice to be done! the most sleep ive been getting per day has been about 45 minutes, and not even in my own bed. ive thrown out hundreds of dollars worth of clothes, and my room smells like a mixture of puke and hot sauce/peppers... not to mention that i havent been on the forums really in the past 2 weeks.
anyone else go through pledging/active in a fraternity?

i wont list my views on fraternities here, but glad to see you made it.
I mostly feel like this, but i can word it nicely.
A lot of people at Mizzou are greek, a lot of them are huge douchebags. Some of them are cool. Some of the sorority chicks aren't ****s. But lets face it, stereotypes happen for a reason.
I could care less if you're in a frat or not, just don't treat me any differently because you are in one. Greek life is just not for me.

i'm not in a frat... its cool if you like it, but i still am able to party with them and a couple of my friends invite me all the time... so i get all the goodies without having to deal with the bad. Congrats... and use this to your advantage if the frat does community work... will look good on a resume.
Welcome future UK stars... Darius Miller, Deandre Liggins, Kevin Galloway, Josh Harrellson
yeah, i definitely understand the stereotypes...
my school doesnt have national frats though, so while we are still recognized, its not like we are associated with the huge, impersonal frats. its more like a small group of people who for the most part have a lot in common. my frat is mainly lacrosse players (i dont play though), but i joined just because i found myself hanging out with the guys every night, and wanted a closer bond with everyone.

See, thats totally understandable. I have nothing against that. Its the frat guys who think they are better then me because they are in a frat that i hate. Its cheap too, if you want to fight one frat boy, you have to deal with 70+ instantly

QFT! i as well do not think highly of these organizations... my freshman roomate pledged back in college.. he ended up beat to h*ll and in a hospital bed before it was all said and done... friends dont do that to each other.. and its not about "brother hood" or "being closer with other guys" or what ever line they feed you.. ok ok, there are exceptions.. but any of those things you get from frats, you can get from real friends, all without having to pay dues every year.. but good luck to ya, i guess the worst is over for ya..

we had one night where they took us out to an open field, and told the first person to run to the other side of the field, and stand with his back to the rest of us. then they told the next person to run, and tackle the other guy.
none of us did it.... until the last pledge. he tackled me (just joking around...) and they ended up sticking him in a closet for 7 hours.
we had a night earlier in the year in which one of the guys in our frat got robbed or something, and then a few weeks later, the guys who robbed him showed up and wanted to party at our house (they were townies, didnt even go to our school)
so the guy who was working the door told them to turn around and leave, and we wouldnt have any problems. the kids hit him in the face.
this is where i think it pays to have such a strong brotherhood, seeing as those few townies (who were all holding guns that night) ended up learning why its not a good idea to rob from a fraternity that is mostly athletes.

my main thing against frats is the fact that you shouldnt have to go thru hell to become some peoples friends and form a "bond"
