So i'm sure you've all seen that All-State insurance commercial: you know, the one where a couple of black suvs force the Monte Carlo/Regal off the highrise parking structure and into the river. And at the end the black guy says "chances of being involved in a movie style car accident? One in a billion. Chances of being involved in a real accident? One in eight." as some poor smuck hits the dude infront of him. Well i've always laughed at that commerical cuz they never specified what 1 in 8 meant. 1 in 8 times you get in your car? 1 in 8 people in your state? 1 in 9 people in the country? 1 in 8 in the world? or maybe 1 in 8 times you find yourself in a tv commerical. Well today i got my answer: One of my co-workers got in a "real" car accident, so i guess its 1 in 8 Bellman.

Re: Answer to my question
Well alot of accidents have 2 cars in them, that's 2 drivers. Did they factor that in? So is that 2 in 8 or 2 in 16? Just something to think about.

So i got to roll it back into its space
I also heard that 3 out of 4 statistics are made up.

Re: Answer to my question
I don't buy statistics: they don't factor in driving ability, common sense, or plain intelligence. In the 6 years and 80,000+ miles I've driven, I've been in one wreck, not my fault. What does that mean my chances of getting in a wreck are every time I get in the car? Even if the 1/8 statistic is fairly accurate for the entire population, it doesn't reflect MY chances as an individual for getting in a wreck. I can't live my life by a statistic. You're right, Fireball, I think it's flawed or misleading information.
On a side note, that was a badass Monte in that commercial. :)-Eric
2002 Navy Blue Camaro...Striped and Stalled. 35th Anniversary SS wheels
Best ET: 15.384 @ 88.32 on street tires
Project Whitney: Goal, 14.0 1/4 by summer 2008.

Re: Answer to my question
what they do is out of 1000 people thay find a 100 or some # of people that answer what they want. Then they can come back and say 99 out of a 100 people, What they should say is 99 out of a 100 personally selected people.
So you can make numbers fit what ever it is you want.2000 Firebird A4, 3.42 LSD, K&N, Free Cold Air, PaceSetter, 3" in/out Catco, 3" S-Pipe, 3" Intermidiate Pipe, 2.5" Flowmaster 80
