The 3.8 is a good solid platform though, kinda like the 4.3. But come on, 200 Flywheel horsepower out of a 3.8 liter??? Europe could pull that out of a lawn mower
Thats a 3.8L PUSHROD motor, not double overhead cam, so no, no they probably couldn't. At least not in 1995.
Too further elaborate: Mitsubishi unveiled a new 3.8L DOHC v6 in their top of the line Eclipse last year. It has 260hp. So 200hp out of a 12 year old engine with an "old" pushrod design isn't really that bad.

I do admit maybe 200hp wasen't the best at the time...but fireball does have a point...A Pushrod motor vs. a DOHC motor...two different stories man!
:bs: :spank:
*EDIT* 3.8l will go as fast as you want them to...just may take a bit more effort and "quality time with the car"...hehe
You get a grip cowboy. You're comparing a base model car to yours. Try racing an LT1 or LS1 then come report back to the forum, kthxbye
You know what, your exactly right. Mabie american cars are better than mine. I give up. I'm going to buy an american car and make it fast. Probally install NOZZZZZZZZ....jk
Everyone needs a little argument sometime :)
Well, thanks for swaying me in the right direction. Now for some extensive forums searching on Vacum leaks! :naughty:

well, its a OHC motor, which Volvo has been using since the late 70's. Whyyy does GM have to stay with pushrod?? What is the advangages?
Get a grip cowboy. Ford just has market share, Volvo still designs and produces there cars exclusively.
so sorry...you were still downing ford...related to your own company...and that has nothing to do with GM, which you were downing in the first place and then give a almost 2 year old article saying that we aren't doing so hot...get some good evidence before you try and be smart

why pushrod? because its worked for over 80 years and when it comes down to it its, RELIABLE. if pushrod motors suck so bad then why does the ls2 put out 400 hp, the ls6 405 hp and the ls7 500hp? none are junk, all are reliable, and nothing can compare.
pushrod > janky *** ohc junk
current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it

Space. Essentially GM can make a larger displacement motor with a pushrod design that takes up a lot less space than the equivilent OHC motor. And with larger displacement you'll end up with plenty of torque which means lower rpm for daily driving and longer engine life. At least that was how it was, nowadays tho with all the high fangled technology its not really any more reliable, but its still smaller (more compact) and thus leaves more room for huge pointless airboxes and the like
